Acclaimed worldwide, awarded platinum records and a Golden Globe, and regularly topping the charts in her home country – the magnificent Portuguese singer Carminho prefers to follow her unerring instincts rather than fleeting trends. Her voice is powerful, passionate, and versatile, her lyrics full of poetry, and her stage presence charismatic. Accompanied by five different guitars and a Mellotron (the analog precursor to the sampler), she and the Bern Symphony Orchestra explore the expressive depths of Fado in the first part of the concert. This traditional Portuguese music genre, declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, resists the homogenization of global culture.
