Gade's Violin Concerto is a truly fantastic work – and a truly fantastic Danish work. Zsolt-Tihamér Visontay is both soloist and conductor in the concert, and he also conducts Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and leads Mendelssohn's Sinfonia No. 10 from the concertmaster's chair.

Tchaikovsky 5

Musikhuset Aarhus

The season's first concert is a tribute to the music we love. Lil Lacy pays homage to his South Jutlandic roots, and Carl Nielsen pays homage to the temperamental clarinet. Tchaikovsky could, like no one else, draw music up from the depths of the soul. The Fifth is in many ways his darkest symphony, but also his most powerful. Passion, dreams and demons: in this concert we go all the way around the emotional spectrum of music.
