Itzhak Perlman, reigning virtuoso of the violin, presents his collection of traditional klezmer music, In the Fiddler’s House. Released more than 25 years ago, the album became a PBS special that earned Perlman his third Emmy Award. Perlman comes back to this project, offering audiences the opportunity to witness his masterful technique and remarkable artistry, but also “to see and hear a gifted musician experiencing the pleasure of getting in contact with his roots” (Los Angeles Times).

Itzhak Perlman’s PBS television special Great Performances: In the Fiddler’s House won an Emmy Award in 1995. A recording of the same name was simultaneously released by EMI Classics/Angel, featuring The Klezmatics accompanying Perlman on his first foray into klezmer. This presentation brings the foot-stopping, heartbeat-raising music to audiences around the country, exposing them to a unique and unforgettable cultural music experience that will leave them dancing in the aisles.

The GRAMMY-winning Jewish klezmer superstars return to celebrate the Festival of Light, performing seasonal music from their acclaimed holiday album Happy Joyous Hanukkah that set lyrics by the late Woody Guthrie to their delightful original compositions.

Formed in the New York’s East Village in 1986, the Klezmatics led the resurgence of the nearly forgotten klezmer tradition and contemporized it with an irreverent dose of punk rock attitude, and since their inception, have been one of most visible faces of today’s Yiddish culture.

Come and celebrate the rich cultural legacy of Yiddish music with New York Sings Yiddish at Central Park on June 14th at 7 pm. Presented by Capital One City Parks Foundation SummerStage in collaboration with the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, this event will see Central Park come alive with the beautiful sound of Yiddish songs featuring the Grammy Award winning ensemble, The Klezmatics, joined by an all star line up of Yiddish concert and theatre stars: Joanne Borts, Josh “Socalled” Dolgin, Cantor Magda Fishman, Avi Fox Rosen, Sarah Mina Gordon, Daniel Kahn, Elmore James, Lea Kalisch, Daniella Rabbani, Eleanor Reissa, Lorin Sklamberg and Special Guest Dudu Fisher.
