With inventive vocal harmonies and a treasure trove of banjos, bottles, horns and squeezeboxes, the band creates an enchanting, adventurous sound at the meeting point of tragedy and comedy. Tom Waits' worn, poetic characters take on new dimensions from a fresh perspective. The band's name is taken from Woody Allen's film Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), which deals with the relationship between three women and one man — here, three women meet the music they love. There is also a strong sense of sisterhood; VKB seeks to highlight the influence of co-writer Kathleen Brennan, Tom Waits' wife, in its interpretations.
