Dear Santa, for Christmas this year I want a Pound Puppy, a Speak + Spell, and a nuclear radiation detector.

In this celebrated play directed by Tony Award nominee KNUD ADAMS (ENGLISH), a young girl is embroiled in intrigue when her estranged uncle, a prominent Black conservative, brings his mysteriously ill wife home for the holidays. A fugue of Reaganomics, espionage, roller disco, and cults—underscored by the cryptic Syracuse, NY chapter of the Seedlings of Peace Children’s Chorus.

In the summer, an old man and an old woman sit on a park bench, talk about the birds, and bet on the rain…but things aren’t as simple as they may seem. With humor, surrealism, and tenderness, the singular imagination and innovative style of acclaimed playwright Jiehae Park turn the ordinary into the extraordinary as the seasons shift, meditating on themes of human connection, memory, and growing older.

Do you have the courage to change? In Eboni Booth’s absorbing, funny, and ultimately stunning new play—the New York Times Critic’s Pick and “pretty darn near to a perfect play” (Tim Teeman, Daily Beast)—William Jackson Harper (The Good Place) heads a remarkable company, directed by Knud Adams, as Kenneth, a 38-year-old bookstore worker facing a world he’s long avoided. The Observer says, “it will restore your faith in theatre’s elemental storytelling powers.”

“English Only.” It’s spring, 2009 in Karaj, Iran and four adult students are studying for the Test of English as a Foreign Language, the key to their green card, medical school admission, or family reunification. Playing out in awkward lessons of word games and mistranslation, English is both a comedy of miscommunication and a look at the ways speaking a new language can expand your world and change your voice.  A hit in its 2021 New York premiere, Studio presents playwright Sanaz Toossi in her Washington, DC debut.
