This trio of works shines a light on some of the world premieres that PNB’s New Works Initiative has created in recent years. Donald Byrd’s haunting Love and Loss premiered in 2019, Alexei Ratmansky’s stunning tribute to his homeland of Ukraine, Wartime Elegy, followed in 2022, and inventive Australian choreographer Danielle Rowe will create something brand new for PNB dancers this November. Carmina Burana

Imagine reading the most beautiful love letters full of poetry, humor, and passion. Now picture them sung on our stage by two of the most talented performers of our time, with a ravishing orchestra behind them. Yeah, the thought takes our breath away too.  Renée Fleming and Rod Gilfry return to LA Opera for this touching song cycle by Kevin Puts, which chronicles the romance of iconic artist Georgia O’Keeffe and her mentor-turned-husband Alfred Stieglitz. New Zealand-born conductor Gemma New makes her LAO debut leading the LA Opera Orchestra.

The Brightness of Light

This is the long awaited, triumphant opening night concert of The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park that you can't afford to miss! The starry evening combines a world premiere San Diego Symphony commission from celebrated American composer Mason Bates, delicious classical excerpts, world-class guest artists (like pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, cellist Alisa Weilerstein and rising young bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green), heart-pounding song selections and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, all led by Music Director Rafael Payare in his public concert debut at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park.
