LAURA JACKSON – now in her 12th season  –  serves as the music director and conductor of the Reno Phil and continues to win praise for her artistry, leadership, and creative community engagement.  In addition to concerts with the Reno Phil, Ms. Jackson guest conducts nationally and internationally. She has performed with the symphonies of Alabama, Atlanta, Baltimore, Berkeley, Charlottesville, Detroit, Hartford, Hawaii, Orlando, the Philippines, Phoenix, Richmond, San Antonio, Toledo, Toronto, Windsor, and Winnipeg in addition to concerts with the Philly POPS and L’Orchestre symphonique de Bretagne in France.

Part of the Pasadena Symphony’s annual Composers Showcase, Grammy-nominated conductor Ward Stare conducts Earthrise, a new work by Patrick Harlin Inspired by the iconic photo of the same name, showing the earth in view above the barren horizon of the moon. The program also features pianist Natasha Paremski.

For his final concert as Composer in Residence with the LSO, Patrick Harlin explores new technology and possibilities to create a unique sonic landscape for the pianist and orchestra in his world premiere piano concerto, The Fourth Pedal. The season comes to a triumphant conclusion with Jean Sibelius’ Symphony No. 2. Known for his unique and original musical voice. Sibelius is connected deeply to the culture and people of Finland, and his music is the ultimate representation of Finnish nationalism.

Experience an evening of stories sonically told by the UMD Wind Orchestra! Björk’s Overture to “Dancer in the Dark,” arranged by Vince Mendoza, chronicles the story of Selma Jezkova, a Czech immigrant to the United States who is going blind due to illness. Michael Gilbertson’s Lands End takes listeners to the windy, wooded cliffs of Lands End overlook, a shoreline in San Francisco peppered with shipwrecks and ruins, while Michael Daugherty recalls the life and legacy of an American track and field hero in The Adventures of Jesse Owens.
