The Carnegie Mellon Wind Ensemble utilizes a flexible instrumentation of winds, brass, and percussion to perform repertoire from standard concert band works to contemporary compositions of various instrumental combinations.

Schenley Farms Historic District

Kevin M. Geraldi leads the Illinois Wind Symphony in their first performance of the 2023–24 academic year, featuring the world premiere of Apricity by Hilary Purrington. William Moersch, acclaimed Professor of Percussion in the U of I School of Music, performs as soloist on the Concerto for Marimba by Christopher Theofanidis. The program includes colorful and exciting works by Ron Nelson, Leslie Bassett, and Paul Dooley.

The concert features instrumental soloists Doreen Ketchens, a jazz clarinetist from New Orleans, and MSU percussionist Gwendolyn Dease. The program includes Fanfare by Arthur Wang, Concerto for Percussion and Wind Ensemble by Paul Lansky, Manifestos by Paul Dooley, What a Wonderful World (arr. Terry Lewis) by George David Weiss, and When the Saints Go Marching In (arr. Drew Dickey) by James M. Black. Kevin L. Sedatole, conductor.

Wharton Center for Performing Arts

In this program geared for school groups, we feature Paul Dooley’s The Conductor’s Spellbook.  Narrator Nathan Bastuscheck takes us through the magical story of Tony Stradivarius.  During a field trip to the symphony, young Tony finds a powerful book of spells and uses it to control the orchestra.  In this exciting and interactive concert experience, audiences will be introduced to music, orchestral instruments, and even conducting!
