Jacob Jolliff is one of the world’s premier contemporary mandolinists. He attended Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship and in 2012, he won the USA’s National Mandolin Championship in Winfield, KS. A fixture of the bluegrass community, he has collaborated and shared the stage with Béla Fleck, Tony Trischka and Michael Daves, Grant Gordy, and Wes Corbett, to name just a few. He’s also toured as a member of the groups Joy Kills Sorrow and Yonder Mountain String Band. His own ensemble, The Jacob Jolliff Band, is one of the most cutting-edge progressive bluegrass groups on the scene today. They’ve released three albums; the most recent, “Instrumentals, Vol. 2: Mandolin Mysteries,” was released last year. They play a combination of complex original instrumental music and traditional tunes with improvisation at the forefront. In 2022, Jacob was called on by banjo master Béla Fleck to tour as part of My Bluegrass Heart. He performed around the country alongside Béla and some of the top musicians in the genre. It follows the story of a young novice nun Maria, whose free spirit has trouble fitting in with the regulations of the convent. She leaves to be a governess to seven motherless children, while contemplating whether to commit to life as a nun. Maria transforms the von Trapp family home from a place of strict rules to one filled with joy, laughter, and music. In the process, she falls in love with the children, capturing their hearts and finding herself drawn to their widower father, Captain von Trapp.

Taking their name from the Gaelic word for “kinship” Daimh (pronounced Dive) have brought their contemporary take on Highland and Gaelic music to over 20 countries. Recent accolades include an award for the “Best Folk Band in Europe” at the prestigious Folkherbst competition in Germany and most recently winner of “Folk Band of the Year” at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards. With a reputation as giants of the bagpipes and fiddle, Angus Mackenzie and Gabe McVarish lead the melodic powerhouse with fellow founding member Ross Martin underpinning the groove on the guitar. The Band are joined by “new guy” Murdo Cameron on mandola and accordion to complete the instrumental line up. Daimh have always had the renown and notoriety of working with some of the finest Gaelic singers in Scotland and the current line up only serves to cement that distinction with the addition of one of Gaelic music’s most rapidly rising star, Ellen MacDonald on vocals. After wowing audiences as part of Béla Fleck’s band last year, mandolinist Jacob Jolliff returns to Rockport this summer with his own band in tow. A former member of two massively popular progressive bluegrass bands, Joy Kills Sorrow and the Yonder Mountain String Band, Jolliff remains one of the country’s premier contemporary mandolinists.
