Celebrating five decades of touring, Tom Rush has been thrilling audiences here and abroad with hits like “No Regrets,” “Circle Game,” “Remember Song,” “Urge for Going” and, of course, “Rockport Sunday.” He returns this summer with singer/songwriter Matt Nakoa on the heels of his latest album Gardens Old, Flowers New (2024).

Nakoa didn’t start playing the piano until he was a teen and he toured the Adirondacks and Catskills with his music. Then he set his sights on the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he started an art rock band, The Fens. His piano skills and incredible vocals led to performances with Grammy-winning singer Kathy Mattea and Grammy-winning jazz composer and Rolling Stones tour saxophone player Tim Ries.

Tom Rush’s impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk scene in the ’60s, the folk-rock movement of the ‘70s and the renaissance of the ’80s and ’90s. His music has left its stamp on generations of artists—James Taylor, Emmylou Harris, Tom Petty and Garth Brooks, among others, have cited Tom as a major influence— and his early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor.  Subsequently, his Club 47 concerts brought national attention to next-generation artists such as Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin.

His 1965 album, The Circle Game, is said to have ushered in the singer/songwriter era, and artists as diverse as James Taylor and Garth Brooks credit him as influences. His songs have been hits as folk, country, heavy metal and rap tunes, but it will always be the sweetness of the ballads and the grit of the blues that people remember. He is Tom Rush, a legend with humility, a guitar hero who majored in English Lit at Harvard.
