Relaxing and spontaneously going to a concert at the Laeiszhalle during your lunch break, and with free admission: This will be possible again on ten Tuesdays in the 2026/2027 season.

Baroque meets Classical

Laeiszhalle Hamburg

Under the motto "Haydn meets Schubert," an evening full of chamber music wit, dramatic depth, and symphonic splendor awaits you. The concert opens with Haydn's famous Symphony No. 45 in F-sharp minor, the so-called "Farewell Symphony," in a captivating arrangement for mixed octet by Ulf-Guido Schäfer. In this richly colored arrangement for winds and strings, the work unfolds a completely new, intimate drama. The composition owes its name to the legendary final movement, in which the musicians pack up their instruments one by one and leave the stage until only two violins remain—a charming, tongue-in-cheek protest by Haydn against his employer's excessively long summer season.
