Kishi Bashi is the moniker of singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Kaoru Ishibashi. A virtuoso violinist and Berklee College of Music alumnus, he has toured with renowned artists such as Regina Spektor before embarking on a critically acclaimed solo career. His 2012 debut album, 151a, was described as “a radiant, uplifting soundscape” by NPR and launched him onto major festival stages, including SXSW and Austin City Limits.

After a sold-out debut in 2023 featuring the powerful Improvisations on EO9066, Kishi Bashi reunites with the Chicago Philharmonic for a one-night-only performance at The Auditorium, Chicago’s Landmark Stage®. The program features music from Kishi Bashi’s newest hit album, Kantos, performed with full orchestra for the first time, along with symphonic versions of earlier fan favorites.

One of indie-music’s most in-demand violinists, multi-instrumentalist Kaoru Ishibashi (a.k.a. Kishi Bashi) has collaborated with such names as Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal. Since stepping out on his own, Bashi has “transformed into a mad pop scientist, giving life to earworms by looping together Eastern sounds, Philip Glass improvisations, and ’70s prog-rock inspiration” (NPR). His latest oeuvre celebrates his cultural heritage, using Japanese refrains as compositional and textural devices while exploring themes of love and self-discovery.

Friends of Minidoka and Minidoka National Historic Site are pleased to welcome acclaimed Japanese American musician Kishi Bashi to Idaho. Kishi Bashi will present his award winning A Song Film by Kishi Bashi: "Omoiyari” followed by a discussion and live musical performance with a string quartet. “Omoiyari” is a Japanese word that means to have sympathy and compassion towards another person. Proceeds from the event benefit Friends of Minidoka and Minidoka National Historic Site for the 2024 Day of Remembrance.
