They’re two of opera’s hottest rising stars. Bolivian soprano Shelén Hughes Camacho and American baritone Joseph Parrish have impressed audiences and competition juries around the globe, with their “elegance and eloquence” (Seen and Heard International) and “arresting stage presence” (Opera News). Now, these two young vocalists make their Cliburn Concerts debut with an eclectic program spanning spirituals, opera, art song, musical theater, and pop music, accompanied by pianist Amir Farid. Two inventive singers unite at the Scottish Rite Temple to close the 10th Anniversary of Festival of Song: Lauren Snouffer and Rolando Villazón. Lauren Snouffer, one of the most versatile and respected sopranos on the international stage, will open the Santa Fe Opera’s Orfeo as La Musica. We also welcome the production’s Orfeo, legendary tenor and Renaissance man Rolando Villazón, praised the world over as “the most charming of today’s divos” (The Times). Cameron Harper is an active clarinetist and private teacher in the Pittsburgh area, currently completing graduate studies at Carnegie Mellon University. Recent performances include Copland’s Symphony No. 3, Brahms’s Symphony No. 1, and Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 5 with the CMU Philharmonic, and he can be heard on BCM&D Records recordings of the Temple University Wind Symphony. While in Philadelphia, Cameron studied clarinet repair with renowned clarinet technician Mark Jacobi and served as music librarian for the Boyer College of Music & Dance and the Temple University Repertory Orchestra. He recently completed the Musical Entrepreneurship & Leadership Development program with New Groove Music Studio and has given presentations about the clarinet to schools across the Greater Pittsburgh area.
