The Göppingen Youth Symphony Orchestra is one of the ensembles offered by the Göppingen Municipal Youth Music School. It has won prizes in numerous competitions and is regularly invited to take part in international festivals. At the IX New York International Music Festival in Carnegie Hall, the Göppingen Youth Orchestra was awarded the gold medal. The ensemble has been featured on radio and television on numerous occasions. The conductor has been Martin Gunkel, City Music Director since 1989. The ensemble aims to promote children and young people's musical development and offer them the opportunity to play sophisticated orchestral music through the development of traditional and modern orchestral works. Furthermore, national prizewinners of the "Jugend musiziert" competition are given the opportunity to perform as soloists in concerts. Concert tours and international youth exchanges have taken the Göppingen Youth Symphony Orchestra to Spain, France, Norway, Hungary, Austria, Italy, Latvia, Great Britain, and the USA on numerous occasions.

The Fiato Quartet, winner of the 2022 Beverly Hills National Auditions, was formed in 2008. Its members are Carrie Kennedy and Joel Pargman, violins, Aaron Oltman, viola and Ryan Sweeney, cello. They hold degrees in music performance from the USC, Rice University, Northwestern University, and the State University of New York at Stony Brook. They each have active concert careers throughout Southern California as members of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Master Chorale, Pasadena Symphony, Long Beach Symphony, New West Symphony, and Musica Angelica Baroque Orchestra. As studio musicians in Los Angeles, they record for motion pictures, television and records.

Yet Anne Akiko Meyers, for whom the work was written, soared through this jungle, her 1741 Guarneri del Gesù violin jumping, bouncing, playing the frequent high registers with operatic facility” (ConcertoNet.com). The MDR Music Summer opens its 34th concert series in the European Capital of Culture 2025 with a brilliant opening. Summer, energy, passion – Gustavo Dudamel and the Berliner Philharmoniker invite you to a end-of-season concert at the Waldbühne. The Venezuelan conductor performed at this venue back in 2008 under the motto Los ritmos de la noche. It was his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker, and was met with great acclaim by the audience. Dudamel now celebrates the end of the season with the orchestra in the open air for the fourth time. The programme will include rousing dances from Bernstein’s musical West Side Story, in which Latin American sounds and rhythms are all-pervasive.

Guest Conductor Michael  Stanley illustrates ways in which folk music has influenced classical composers, the basis for some of their most popular works. Inspired by American folk music, Copland wrote Appalachian Spring; Márquez drew from the dance music of  Mexico in  Danzon No. 2.  Dvořák took inspiration from spirituals and Native American music for his New World Symphony.

Anne Akiko Meyers is one of the world’s most esteemed violinists, celebrated for her expressive depth and technical prowess. She has collaborated with today’s most important composers, conductors, and orchestras, creating a remarkable collection of new violin repertoire for future generations, including Arturo Márquez’s Fandango, a violin concerto written for her in 2021, which received a 2024 Grammy® Award nomination for her recording with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Ms. Meyers’ CAMA recital debut program will include a premiere of Philip Glass’s New Chaconne, as well as Márquez’s Danzón No.2 in a new arrangement by the composer. Anne Akiko Meyers will play the exquisite 1741 “ex-Vieuxtemps” Guarneri del Gesù, considered by many to be the finest sounding violin in existence for its powerfully luxuriant sound and mint state of preservation. Joining Anne Akiko Meyers is Italian pianist Fabio Bidini, a distinguished faculty member at the Colburn School in Los Angeles.

Symphonic Dances is not so much a collection of dances as it is a series of dramatic tone poems, filled with moodily memorable melodies, eerie waltzes, and a triumphant, virtuosic finale. An audience favorite, violinist Augustin Hadelich reveals “something from a plane beyond ours,” performing Mendelssohn’s wonderfully lyric, virtuosic violin concerto.

Composer Arturo Márquez describes the trumpet as “the Mexican cry of joy and sorrow” and José Sibaja proves this as trumpet soloist in Marquez’ Concierto de Otoño (Autumn Concerto) on not one, not two, but four different instruments! This high-energy concert concludes with Rimsky-Korsakov’s vibrant Capriccio espagnol, which was directly influenced by folk melodies of Spain.
