Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts Boulez’s Rituel in memoriam Bruno Maderna (“the most sensuously appealing score of Boulez’s career,” The New Yorker) in an immersive production featuring L.A. Dance Project and choreography by the renowned French dancer Benjamin Millepied. Salonen also leads a pair of works Boulez championed during his tenure as the NY Phil’s Music Director: Bartók’s kaleidoscopic Concerto for Orchestra and Stravinsky’s Octet for winds.

The Walls Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts

Colburn’s Tap, Modern Dance, Ballet, and Dance Academy students will dazzle in their December performance featuring new choreography and beloved masterworks. This year’s program includes choreography by Balanchine, Benjamin Millepied, Bella Lewitzky, and Colburn faculty members, with compositions by Tchaikovsky, Brahms, Hampton Hawes, and more. The performance also includes live percussion played by Colburn accompanist and Grammy winner TJ Troy.

This unique production reinterprets Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers as young adults navigating an urban environment where societal norms challenge their love story.

From acclaimed choreographer Benjamin Millepied comes a bold, multidisciplinary reenvisioning of Shakespeare’s tragedy with Prokofiev’s lush score. Set in a modern metropolis, the titular duo are recast as diverse young adults: rotating between male/female, male/male, and female/female pairings. The fast-paced drama unfolds both on and beyond the Gaillard stage through live video, a state-of-the-art projection system, and accompaniment by the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra under the baton of Orchestra Music Director Timothy Myers. Hailed by The New Yorker as “startling, dazzling, and wrenching in equal measure,” Romeo and Juliet Suite offers a riveting treatise on the recklessness of young love.

Commissioned by Van Cleef & Arpels, this trilogy of contemporary ballets—Reflections (2013), Hearts & Arrows (2014), and On the Other Side (2016)—draws inspiration from the symbolic and emotional resonance of precious stones. Each work offers a distinct world where movement, music, and design converge to reveal something luminous and intimate. Presented together for the first time in New York by PAC NYC and Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels, the triptych marks the culmination of a creative journey spanning over a decade.

Choreographer Benjamin Millepied delves into Barbara's world for his new choreographic creation. Influenced since childhood by French song, he draws from this intimate memory a dance impulse nourished by the singer's powerful melodies and chiseled words.  Through a refined space, bathed in light  and immaculate drapes, bodies appear  and disappear, embodying the range of emotions that run through Barbara's work—between nostalgia, passion, gentleness, and tragedy.
