Join us for an intimate evening of exceptional music at the "Up Close with Marc Zyla" event, presented by the Quad City Symphony Orchestra (QCSO). This unique concert will take place on May 19th at 5:00 pm CDT, hosted within the inspiring walls of the Figge Art Museum located at 225 W 2nd St, Davenport, IA, 52801.

The evening promises an unforgettable musical journey with principal horn Marc Zyla, showcasing his extraordinary talent alongside the accomplished pianist Marian Lee and the evocative spoken word artist Aubrey Barnes. The program features a carefully curated selection of works by Margaret Brouwer, Frederick Tillis, Gustav Mahler (trans. Douglas Sparkes), and Paul Hindemith, offering a rich tapestry of sounds that span the emotional spectrum.

The concert will open with Margaret Brouwer's "Sonata for Horn and Piano," followed by Frederick Tillis's "Spiritual Fantasy No. 5." The mood will then shift with Gustav Mahler's "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen" transcribed by Douglas Sparkes, before concluding with Paul Hindemith's "Sonata for Alto Horn and Piano." This diverse program promises to highlight the versatility and depth of the horn, as well as the technical prowess and musicality of Marc Zyla.

The Arianna String Quartet are an integral part of our educational program, which is why we are so fortunate to host them at Madeline Island every year. As performers, they’re also crowd pleasers! Formed in 1992, the Arianna String Quartet garnered national attention by winning the Grand Prize in the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition. Since 2000, they have been the full-time string faculty at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Now in their 31st season, their recordings of the complete quartets of Beethoven for Centaur Records have been highly praised.
