The concert opens with VOCES8 performing alongside the visiting ensembles and culminates with VOCES8’s solo set of beloved repertoire and a return of all performing forces to the stage for a stunning finale.

Give Me Your Stars explores the profound and diverse beauty of music inspired by the heavens, human connection, and the places we call home. At its heart is Lucy Walker’s eponymous new work, written for VOCES8, which captures the delicate balance between celestial wonder and the deep, personal connections that make us human.

The programme spans centuries of choral music, from the luminous polyphony of Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Regina caeli to timeless jazz standards. Along the way, we encounter the reflective sentiments of Eric Whitacre’s All Seems Beautiful to Me and Ola Gjeilo’s Ubi caritas, folk traditions in Danny Boy and Michael McGlynn’s Dúlamán, and evocative tales of cities and starlight in April in Paris and New York, New York.

The world beyond the Arctic Circle is a realm like no other – vast expanses, majestic mountains and crystal-clear fjords define its breathtaking beauty. The Norwegian violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing has captured these landscapes in music, performing alongside the Arctic Philharmonic, the world’s northernmost professional orchestra. Their programme combines Nordic classics from composers like Grieg and Rautavaara with specially commissioned pieces by film composers including Frode Fjellheim (title song to »Frozen«) and Jacob Shea (»Planet Earth II«).

The West Valley Symphony of Utah was invited to perform with the Choral Arts Society of Utah and Wasatch Master Chorale for a concert on Saturday, March 29th, at Libby Gardner Concert Hall, University of Utah. The performance will feature Ola Gjeilo’s Sunrise Mass, along with works by Mozart, Smetana, and Mack Wilberg.

Vocal winds and budding spring dreams

This concert will feature works by American composers. On the program will be the well-known and endearing work by Randall Thompson, “Frostiana”, which sets seven poems by Robert Frost to music. Emma Lou Diemer, who recently passed away, wrote “Three Madrigals”, a work set to three Shakespearean texts. To round out the program, the chorus will sing two works by groundbreaking composer Florence Price, “Praise the Lord” and “Resignation”, Ola Gjeilo’s haunting setting of “Ubi Caritas, and  Morten Lauridsen’s “Sure on this Shining Night” and “Dirait-on!”  Organist Joshua Ehlebracht will perform a special prelude as a part of the concert which begins at 4 pm.

Drawing inspiration from Fortuna, who is the personification of luck and fate, we start our journey with Verdi’s bold overture to his opera ‘La forza del destino’ setting the stage for Paul Leavitt’s ethereal Lux Aeterna conducted by the composer. On Monday, April 22, 2024, Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) will present Ola Gjeilo’s choral music which will be conducted by Dr. Irene Messoloras at Carnegie Hall. UCI Chamber Singers and a portion of the Concert Choir, a total of 75 UCI singers, will perform in the program. The program that will be performed is the Twilight Mass by Ola Gjeilo with the composer performing at the piano along with a professional orchestra and soloist.
