The Heart of the Earth, Eatnama váibmu , is a colorful musical experience with Sami origins about the mysticism and the struggle between good and evil. With rhythmic drum beats and elements of joik, the story is told in Northern Sami about the beating heart of the earth. The performance is for all ages, you can follow along with the text on the text machine to get the best experience!

Swedish Malin Broman has been concertmaster of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2008, and she also has an international career as a soloist and conductor. She takes on both roles at this concert, where she is the soloist in Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1. His ability to create melodic lines and emotional depths in the music always arouses enthusiasm, and one is amazed by the virtuoso acrobatics to which the violin is subjected.

Brahms is at the forefront of this concert of Romantic masterpieces beginning with Swedish composer Britta Byström's UK premiere of A Walk to Brahms’ Violin Concerto. This short piece explores themes from Brahms’ Violin Concerto, coupled with a modern spirit. Then, head back in time to hear the original composition in full with internationally acclaimed violinist, Clara Jumi Kang.

Brahms is at the forefront of this concert of Romantic masterpieces beginning with Swedish composer Britta Byström’s UK premiere of A Walk to Brahms’ Violin Concerto.

The Play of the Night is an opera in one act with music by Britta Byström and libretto by Peter Bäckström. The title refers to Penelope's nightly dreams, where she encounters images, goddesses and people. Her analysis of these dreams is reflected in her daily life: in her waiting for her husband Odysseus, who may never return from war, and in her impending life choices.

When Britta Byström was commissioned to write a piece for the Nikolai Malko Competition in 2021, she remembered Jules Verne's story "A Drama in the Air", in which a balloon ride takes us ever higher. What is a conducting competition in which the participants direct the music through movements in the air, other than such a drama, she asked herself and composed "A Drama in the Air". Soloist Valentino Worlitzsch and the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra follow the short orchestral piece with Edward Elgar's melancholic Cello Concerto in E minor, op. 85, his last completed work from 1919. Things get mysterious with Elgar's Enigma Variations, op. 36 from 1898, as it is said to contain a reminiscence of Ludwig van Beethoven, more precisely the 2nd movement of his 8th Piano Sonata, op. 13 "Pathétique".

This unique concert showcases the world premiere of a new work by Rufus Isabel Elliot, alongside a selection of contemporary pieces by composers such as David Fennessy, Christian Mason, Barbara Monk Feldman, Martin Arnold, Britta Byström, Ryoko Akama, and Stuart MacRae.
