Before her appearances as Mary Dee in Cincinnati Opera’s world stage premiere of Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio, Metropolitan Opera soprano Jacqueline Echols McCarley will present “Soul and Spirit,” an intimate concert tracing her musical inspirations. Joined by Damien Sneed at the piano, McCarley takes audience members on an inspiring journey through some of the music that has shaped her, including sacred songs, spirituals, and hymns, as well as classical, gospel, and jazz.

Following his breakout role at the Met’s 2021-22 season opener and his Grammy-winning performance in Terence Blanchard’s "Fire Shut Up in My Bones," Liverman continues to explore significant works, including his recent portrayal in Anthony Davis’ "X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X."

The program promises an afternoon of rich musical exploration, featuring Michael Ippolito's "The Long Year," a song cycle dedicated to Liverman and premiered by him at the Kennedy Center in 2022. The recital will also include William Grant Still's "Grief," selections from Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Songs of Travel," and a captivating set of Four Spirituals, among other works by Gabriel Fauré, Franz Schubert, Carl Loewe, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.

Winner of the 2022 prestigious Richard Tucker Award, Angel Blue has garnered international praise for her radiant, velvety voice and her portrayals of many of opera’s greatest heroines including Mimi in La Boheme, Violetta in La Traviata, and Tosca. She opened the Metropolitan Opera’s 2019/20 season as Bess in Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and also starred in the Grammy-winning recording from that production. Future engagements include headlining a new Metropolitan Opera production of Aida. She also enjoys an active concert and recital career. In this varied program, she’ll be joined by Grammy-nominated pianist Myra Huang, Head of Music at the Met’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and Director of musical administration and head coach for the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program.
