The show must go on, but how? For Canio and his traveling troupe, painted smiles and colorful costumes belie infidelity and betrayal. The façade is shattered when a hidden affair is revealed and a lighthearted night at the theater gives way to jealousy, suspicion, and ultimately violence. Puccini’s blockbuster opera returns to our stage starring Janai Brugger as the sweet but suffering Mimi and Oreste Cosimo as the lovestruck Rodolfo, with Gihoon Kim and Erica Petrocelli as the on-again-off-again lovers Marcello and Musetta.

Resident Conductor Lina González-Granados leads Puccini’s transcendent score, awash in lavish Romanticism and gorgeous melodies. Director Brenna Corner helms a timeless production from Herbert Ross that the LA Times calls a “warm, nostalgic evocation of Paris in Puccini’s time.”

Giacomo Puccini’s melodrama returns to the McCaw Hall stage in a classic production that “has just about everything: great tunes, desperate lovers, loads of action, and a bad guy you’re going to love to hate” (The Seattle Times). Two lovers are thwarted by the power-hungry Scarpia while the fiery prima donna Tosca is pushed past sanity when her only hope for freedom means submitting to the evil Baron’s lecherous desires.

#### Synopsis:
The opera begins with an aging Tonio recalling his days with a traveling commedia dell’arte troupe. The story unfolds as the troupe arrives in a village to perform. Canio, who plays Pagliaccio, becomes suspicious of his wife Nedda’s fidelity. The tension escalates when Tonio, rejected by Nedda, informs Canio of her affair with Silvio. The boundaries between the staged farce and real-life drama blur during the evening performance, leading to a tragic conclusion.

Lush music and playful humour intertwine with Old Trout’s signature puppetry, turning the opera delightfully on its head while honouring the heart of the fairytale.
