This concert has something for everyone, from one of the most powerful African-American composers of the Romantic Era, Coleridge-Taylor, to the movie music of Philip Glass. Enjoy our new performance styles exploring tones and timbres.

Continuing with favorites of Simon and Garfunkel to Tchaikovsky while concluding the season with the Grand Sextet by the "father of Russian music," Glinka.

Journey Museum and Learning Center

We begin with El Dorado, a work for harp and strings. The work describes a journey/quest for the elusive city completely made of gold. The greedy marching conquistadors, beautiful tropical landscapes, hidden dangers with moments of peacefulness and contemplation.

​The program continues with two iconic works by Czech composers, Smetana and Dvorak. Smetana writes, "​I had no intention of composing a quartet according to a formula or according to the usual conception of the form...
Consequently this Quartet created its own form. I wanted to picture the tones in the course of my life."

Dvorak's Dumky Trio describes the style of  a Slavic (some sources state specifically Ukrainian) folk song marked by abrupt changes from soulful to exuberant.

Czech Your Heritage

Opening our season is the iconic Johnny Cash favorite followed by a new favorite, "String Circle", by Kenji Bunch. The work explores the great history of American fiddle playing, flirting with ragtime, blues, and country music.

The 2nd half of the program is the epic Brahms Sextet #2 , scored for 2 violins, 2 violas, cello and bass.

This work will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride.
