Fun-loving widow Dolly Meyer hires herself out as a matchmaker with a sensational success rate. Vandergelder may be rich, but he's extremely eccentric and thinks everyone is an idiot – except for himself, of course. Dolly quickly hatches a plan to marry the businessman herself, but first arranges a date for him with milliner Irene Molloy in New York. While Vandergelder is away on "business," his employees Cornelius and Barnaby decide to use their free time for a trip to the big city – where their first stop is Mrs. Molloy's millinery, where their boss is currently womanizing. So Dolly has her hands full trying to moderate the situation…
