**Synopsis:**
Wrongly convicted of murder, Andy Dufresne is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary. Amidst the corruption and dangers of prison life, Andy forms a remarkable friendship with Red and finds a way to keep hope alive. Their story is a testament to the endurance of the human spirit against all odds.

Young Scout and her brother Jem live in the sleepy town of Maycomb, Alabama with their widowed father, the lawyer Atticus Finch.  Life is wonderful – until the facade of the seemingly peaceful town begins to crack when a young Black man is accused of a terrible crime. Driven by an unshakeable moral conviction, Atticus defends the man in a trial that sends waves of violence through the community. This hard-hitting work explores prejudice, compassion and the courage to do what is right.

Join us for the high-energy musical based on the 80’s movie. When Ren and his mother leave Chicago and move to the rural community of Bomont, Ren finds himself at odds with most everyone, including the powerful Reverend Moore. As a result of a recent tragedy, Moore has convinced the town fathers to outlaw dancing. With the help of Ariel (Moore’s daughter) and Willard (his new friend), Ren convinces the Reverend to let teenagers dance again, and in the process, helps to heal the whole town.

**Grandma Gatewood Took a Walk at Barter Theatre**

Join us at Barter’s Smith Theatre from May 11th to June 2nd for a remarkable theatrical experience, "Grandma Gatewood Took a Walk." This inspiring play, written by Catherine Bush, tells the true story of Emma Gatewood, a 67-year-old mother and grandmother who embarked on an extraordinary journey. One spring day, Emma told her family she was going for a walk, leaving out the detail that her walk would span over 2,000 miles through 14 states. Her adventure made her the first woman to solo through-hike the newly formed Appalachian Trail, marking a significant moment in hiking history.

"Grandma Gatewood Took a Walk" is not just a play; it's a wildly theatrical adventure that follows Emma and all the individuals who played a part in her incredible journey. The production brings to life the challenges and triumphs Emma faced, offering audiences a glimpse into the resilience and determination of this remarkable woman.

The production features a talented cast including Mary Lucy Bivins as Emma Gatewood, John Hardy as PC Gatewood/et al., and is directed by Nicholas Piper.
