In addition to the headline piece, the program includes Lili Boulanger's Psalm 24 and Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges' Violin Concerto in A major, Op.5 No 2, showcasing the rich diversity and depth of French classical music.

The four movements of Symphony No. 39 are marked by Mozart’s brilliant orchestration, melody, and structure. The first movement is one of his most famous, the second a soulful melody played by the strings, the third a lively dance-like rhythm, and the fourth a grand finale full of energy and joy. It is a beloved work that has captivated audiences for centuries. This concert also features Mozart’s lively, lyrical Bassoon Concerto – a piece that highlights the bassoon’s unique sound and technical capabilities, showcasing the tremendous skill and virtuosity of our own Principal Bassoon Gabe Azzie – and the bright, jovial Symphony No. 2 by Mozart’s contemporary Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges.

The season opens on August 24th with a delightful program featuring Mozart’s beloved Bassoon Concerto, showcasing Principal Bassoonist Daniel Hane. Also on the program are Jean-Philippe Rameau’s “Airs de Ballet” from his exotic opéra-ballet “Les Indes Galantes” and Haydn’s ever amusing Symphony No. 83, “La Poule.”

This performance promises to be a profound musical journey, showcasing the talents of two of the most promising young artists in classical music today.

Experience Mozart’s majestic final work, the Requiem, a masterpiece of both solace and intensity reflective of the timeless themes of life, death and redemption. On the first half, the program opens with a spiritual work by Florence Price featuring principal clarinetist Chris Johnson. Young virtuoso Lun Li will then bring Joseph Bologne’s remarkable and “Mozartean” Ninth Violin Concerto to life. A true renaissance man of the 18th century, Bologne was an extraordinary black composer neglected for centuries who is finally getting rightful recognition as one of the most accomplished musicians of his time.

Already signed to Decca Records at the age of 24 Randall Goosby is acclaimed for the sensitivity and intensity of his musicianship alongside a determination to make music more inclusive and accessible, as well as bringing the music of under-represented composers to light. His career is already at the very top level with performances which orchestras such as The Philadelphia Orchestra and London’s Philharmonia. His programme offers a feast of melody from one of today’s most exciting young musicians.
