Italian vocal artistry enjoys a reputation like no other—and thanks to Franco Vassallo, audiences at the Rudolfinum will have the chance to experience it first-hand. The celebrated baritone, known for iconic roles such as Figaro and Falstaff, will perform arias from his signature repertoire. But the evening won’t be devoted to opera alone: he will also present songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams, inspired by the rugged beauty of the Scottish landscape.

The Academy of St Martin in the Fields reunite with internationally acclaimed cellist Steven Isserlis, having last toured together in 2016. The programme will include Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major, a concerto with Haydn’s signature joy, humour and warmth and showcases Isserlis’ virtuosic skills. Also on the programme is Tchaikovsky’s Andante Cantabile, originally from his String Quartet No. 1 and arranged separately by the composer for cello and string orchestra. This gorgeous piece became famous in its own right separate to the quartet and is based on a folk song.

The Fondazione del Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino announces in co-production with the Fondazione Academia Montis Regalis, the programming of the opera Il Ciro by Alessandro Scarlatti from the drama by Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni, never performed in modern times since its first performance in 1712.

At the height of his powers, Scarlatti arrived in 1703 from Naples, bringing with him the latest musical fashions. Although opera performances were banned there by Pope Innocent XII, the themes of Christian faith found new expression in the oratorio using the means of modern musical drama. George Frideric Handel was at the heart of the action as the harpsichordist in Scarlatti's Marian oratorio Il Giardino di rose and was able to close the 1708 oratorio season with his work La Resurrezione . A year earlier, the young Handel had written his psalm setting Dixit Dominus – a masterpiece of Baroque choral music. In 1720, Scarlatti was commissioned by Cardinal Francesco Acquaviva d'Aragona to compose his eponymous Messa di S. Cecilia

In the Bible account of the Annunciation, Mary is told by the archangel Gabriel that she will bear God’s son. Alessandro Scarlatti devoted one of his numerous sacred oratorios to this episode from St. Luke’s Gospel: this is the sumptuous sound of the Italian establishment at the time the young Handel came to Rome. It made a lasting impression on him, but also provoked his contradictory spirit: in La Resurrezione, Handel went on to do things quite differently.

The season of seasons closes by honoring the themes of light, love, and rebirth through acclaimed works by Pergolesi, Scarlatti, Bach, and Vivaldi. In Vivaldi’s “Summer,” the cuckoo, dove, and goldfinch sing in the blazing sun before the winds begin to blow. Following an homage to Scarlatti, including his Salve Regina in G Minor, we conclude with a work that he inspired; Pergolessi’s final masterpiece, Stabat Mater. Its dancing rhythms and decorative trills contrast effectively with the tender, passionate text sung by soprano Anna Dennis, rounding out the season with a sense of joy and hope.

Jeneba Kanneh-Mason is now a regular and much loved visitor to Perth Concert Hall and is developing into one of the most exciting young musicians on the international circuit. Added to that is a selection of fabulous Russian music, while the programme opens with 2 of Scarlatti’s 550 sonatas, the touchstone of inventiveness in keyboard music.

Experience the grandeur of Baroque music like never before at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's "Baroque Organ" concert. Nine extraordinary artists, including renowned organist Paolo Bordignon, will perform a selection of transcriptions by Bach himself, organ solos featuring a French holiday carol, and more, bringing the rich textures and intricate harmonies of the Baroque era to life.

The program features a diverse range of compositions, from Alessandro Scarlatti's "Three Arias for Trumpet, Oboe, and Organ" to George Frideric Handel's "Concerto in A major for Organ, HWV 307, Op. 7, No. 2". Each piece has been carefully selected to highlight the unique capabilities of the organ, as well as the virtuosity of the performers.

In addition to Bordignon, the concert will feature performances by violinists Benjamin Beilman and Alexander Sitkovetsky, violist Matthew Lipman, cellist Keith Robinson, double bassist Edgar Meyer, oboists James Austin Smith and Juri Vallentin, and trumpeter David Washburn. These acclaimed musicians, each with their own impressive career and contributions to the world of classical music, will come together to create an evening of unparalleled musical excellence.

**Fallen Angels: A Baroque Exploration of the Paranormal**

Join Ars Lyrica Houston for an enchanting evening of Baroque music that delves into the mystical and paranormal, titled "Fallen Angels." This captivating concert took place on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 7:30 PM in the exquisite Zilkha Hall at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

"Fallen Angels" showcased an otherworldly program that spanned the harrowing "Judgement of Solomon" by Giacomo Carissimi to the spirited masques from Henry Purcell’s "Fairy Queen." The performance featured a stellar lineup of five extraordinary singers accompanied by a colorful Baroque orchestra, complete with period strings and winds, setting the stage for a season devoted to the magical aspects of music.

The concert highlighted the talents of Nola Richardson and Eliza Masewicz, sopranos; Jay Carter, countertenor; Thomas O’Neill, tenor; and Enrico Lagasca, bass-baritone, marking an Ars Lyrica debut for some. The program included a rich selection of works, such as Carissimi's "Judicium Salomonis," Alessandro Scarlatti's "Cello Sonata in C minor," and excerpts from Purcell's "The Fairy Queen," among others. The performance ran for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, including an intermission, with all texts projected in English surtitles for the audience's understanding.

Audience members were treated to a night of sublime artistry, with the celestial voices of the singers and the elegant performance of the orchestra creating an entrancing experience. The concert was not only a showcase of musical excellence but also an exploration of themes like love, mystery, and the supernatural, as reflected in the Baroque era's rich tapestry of sounds and stories.

For those who missed the live performance, digital replay passes are available, offering a chance to experience the magic of "Fallen Angels" from the comfort of home. Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov launched his career by winning the London International Piano Competition in 2009 at the age of 18 and has made a seamless transition from prodigy to celebrated career musician. He performs frequently in recital at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium, Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, among many others, as well as in chamber music performances and as soloist with leading orchestras such as the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, San Francisco Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and Concertgebouworkest. The exciting program includes Schumann’s dramatic Kreisleriana and Rachmaninoff’s riveting Variations on a Theme of Corelli.

Les Accents, one of the leading ensembles on the early music scene, presents festive treasures of the 17th and 18th centuries in a programme titled Heavenly Night. Whether vocal, as in Alessandro Scarlatti’s little-known “Cantata per la notte del santissimo Natale”, or instrumental, like Arcangelo Corelli’s “Christmas Concerto”: this music is not only festive and full of joy, but also invites us into the world of the Christmas story.

The chamber orchestra Les Violons du Roy takes its name from the renowned string orchestra of the court of the French kings and is admired for its “brisk, rhythmically bracing, at times exultant performances” (Los Angeles Times). The Québécois ensemble is joined by the Grammy nominated mandolinist Avi Avital, described by The New York Times as “nothing short of electric,” for a program of Baroque concerti.
