SPCO Artistic Partner Richard Egarr kicks off our 65th season with a pair of works that explore the sonic effects created by placing groups of musicians throughout the hall. A charming concerto by Antonio Vivaldi featuring violin and winds leads into the program's titular work, which sees SPCO musicians united on stage at the Ordway. Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 was written at an important turning point for the young composer as he started to push his limits amidst worsening health and the beginning of his hearing loss — a year prior to the completion of his more well-known Eroica.
