The three Antonios - Vivaldi, Lotti and Caldara - are the focus of the concert of the NDR Vokalensemble with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin under the direction of chief conductor Klaas Stok in the Galerie Herrenhausen.

For this event and the "orchestra di Dresda", the great composers of the time outdid each other with new works that still fascinate today.

The Los Angeles Master Chorale opens the 2024-2025 season with Sing Joyfully | 60th Anniversary Celebration Concert, which features a cappella pieces from the Renaissance to present day. The concert opens with William Byrd’s ebullient Sing Joyfully, and the Chorale will take Byrd at his word by joyfully singing choral showpieces by Anton Bruckner, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla. The second half of the program celebrates the 30th anniversary of Morten Lauridsen’s classic O Magnum Mysterium (written for the Chorale), along with glorious music of Elinor Remick Warren, Moses Hogan and Leonard Bernstein among many others.

Sing Joyfully | A 60th Anniversary Celebration Concert!

JS Bach had an extensive personal library, which provides a unique insight into what music he admired most. Two of the composers whose works he collected were Antonio Vivaldi and Jan Dismas Zelenka. While Bach never met Vivaldi in person, he clearly admired his works; he transcribed and arranged many of the Italian musician’s concertos for his own performances. Zelenka, on the other hand, was a personal friend of Bach; both had works by the other in their library and performed each others’ works. Rounding out the concert is a cantata by Caroline Shaw, the youngest composer ever to win the Pulitzer Prize, and a friend to many in our Chorale and Orchestra. To the Hands is inspired by the music of Buxtehude, another of Bach’s contemporaries and one who, like Vivaldi and Zelenka, was an important influence on the great master. Join us for a concert exploring some of the music Bach loved most.
