La mezzo-soprano Lea Desandre, formée auprès de William Christie et régulièrement nommée aux Victoires de la musique classique, dont elle a été lauréate en 2017, prête sa voix cristalline à trois siècles de chansons d’amour françaises entrecoupées de solos de luth par Thomas Dunford, qui font le lien entre les époques et les styles. Idylle réunit les œuvres de compositeurs inspirés, de Marc-Antoine Carpentier à Barbara en passant par Debussy et Offenbach, plongeant les auditeurs dans la tradition de la chanson française où l’amour est présenté dans tous ses états et sur tous les tons : triste, joyeux, langoureux ou facétieux…

Join us for an unforgettable evening of chamber music at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, featuring the exceptional talents of clarinetist Sebastian Manz and pianist Danae Dörken. This captivating duo will take the stage on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 7:30 pm in the intimate setting of the Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio at CMS.

The program promises a journey through the rich landscape of chamber music, showcasing works from the Romantic period to the 20th century. Audiences will be treated to Niels Gade's "Fantasiestucke for Clarinet and Piano, Op. 43," André Messager's "Solo de concours for Clarinet and Piano," Witold Lutosławski's "Dance Preludes for Clarinet and Piano," and Giuseppe Verdi's "Concert Fantasia on Motives from Rigoletto for Clarinet and Piano." The evening will also feature Jörg Widmann's "Funf Bruchstucke Five Fragments for Clarinet and Piano," Joseph Horovitz's "Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano," and Gioachino Rossini's "Introduction, Theme, and Variations for Clarinet and Piano."

Sebastian Manz, celebrated for his beautiful intonation and technical prowess, and Danae Dörken, known for her breathtaking technique and musical depth, promise to deliver performances that will resonate long after the final note. This event is not just a concert but an exploration of the artistry and chemistry between two of the most exciting musicians in the classical music world today.

The concert will last approximately 2 hours, including an intermission, allowing the audience to fully immerse themselves in the beauty of chamber music. This performance marks the culmination of a week-long mentoring program for four young singers and a pianist, handpicked by Artistic Director Steven Blier, showcasing their exceptional talent and the fruits of their intensive training at Caramoor.

Launched in spring 2009, the Schwab Vocal Rising Stars Program is a cornerstone of Caramoor’s dedication to nurturing young talent. Focused on vocal chamber music and the art of song in recital, this program invites singers at the advanced student and beginning professional level for a week of intensive coaching, rehearsals, and workshops. The program is a tribute to the memory of Terrance W. Schwab and is supported by the Terrance W. Schwab Endowment Fund for Young Vocal Artists.
