The first ever Mariachi opera, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna/To Cross the Face of the Moon, follows the two families of Laurentino, a Mexican man who has moved to the United States to work, even though that means leaving behind his wife Renata and son Rafael. Although he sends money home, and visits when he can, his choices have tragic consequences for his family left in Michoacán. Decades later, he lies dying. Now an elderly man, cared for by his American son Mark and granddaughter Diana, Laurentino questions the true meaning for him of ‘family’ and ‘home’ after a life straddling two cultures, a life in which he kept so many secrets from those he loved. Even as he draws his final breath, the two strands of his life finally come together in an emotional reunion, and Laurentino perhaps finds the answers he needs to rest peacefully.

Nathan is ditching class when he stumbles on Melody crying in a storage closet – he’s a white boy with family money and dangerous habits, she’s the lone Black girl on campus, excelling academically and grappling with isolation.  Bite Me is a dark comedy that explores the drama (and trauma) of surviving high school, as Nathan and Melody find themselves tangled in an unexpected bond they’ll spend a lifetime unraveling.

Join director Rebecca Martínez, composer Julián Mesri, and cast members of this spring’s bilingual, musical Mobile tour of THE COMEDY OF ERRORS. The discussion will be moderated by Public Theater alum, Raúl Esparza. Mobile Unit represents The Public’s founding impulses: to bring the finest art to the greatest number of people; to invite the people of New York to participate directly in transforming Shakespeare’s plays and poetry; and to make art that is truly for everyone.
