Bits and Scraps: New Music for Percussion

New World Center

The Montpellier Occitanie National Orchestra is conducted by Harry Ogg, a British conductor with a distinctive sensibility, well-versed in Germanic and contemporary repertoire. The soloist is David Kadouch, a French pianist with a lucid and passionate style, a regular performer in major international concert halls. Clara Schumann was only 13 when she sketched her Piano Concerto , which she completed at 16. A work of astonishing maturity, it blends virtuosity and intimate lyricism, with a final movement that seems to challenge Robert, then her suitor. A manifesto of a young prodigy. Robert Schumann would later respond with his Symphony No. 2 , written in 1845 while he was battling depression. The work journeys from darkness to light: a breathless introduction, a fiery scherzo, a moving adagio, and a triumphant finale, dedicated to Clara. Two souls, two masterpieces, one shared eternity.
