Multi-award-winning blues artist, Sue Foley presents “One Guitar Woman” a show devoted to the female pioneers of guitar. These are the women who were expressing themselves through the instrument as far back as the 1920’s, at the inception of radio and recorded music including Maybelle Carter, Memphis Minnie, Mary Osborne, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and more. Celebrating these women of excellence, Sue presents an evening of varied guitar styles and musical genres interspersed with their stories and her own personal narrative.

Once again, celebrated SOPAC curator and local Blues legend Mike Griot brings his storied programming to the Mainstage to present the Winter Edition of SOPAC’s 2nd Annual South Orange International Blues Festival: “Women in Blues” featuring three artists of incomparable depth and range: Sue Foley, Alexis P. Suter, and Rae Simone. A member of SOPAC’s Creative Brain Trust, Griot curates this annual event with longtime Blues fans, casual listeners, and curious newcomers in mind. Sue Foley has been playing guitar since she was 13 years old. Like so many other musicians, it was the music of the early Rolling Stones that inducted her into the world of the blues. As she started working with other bands, she made her way to the Mark Hummel group and began touring Canada and northern America. When Austin blues nightclub and label owner, Clifford Antone saw her at the annual Blues Music Awards in Memphis, he knew he’d met an all-timer. Before long, Foley was living in Austin and, in 1992, recorded her debut album YOUNG GIRL BLUES. They say some things are meant to be, and surely it was this connection with Antone and Austin that set the stage for much of the blues woman’s life.
