Emerging from the vibrant Boston music scene in the early 1970s, Richman first made waves as the frontman of The Modern Lovers, a band whose stripped-down sound and raw lyrics laid the groundwork for the punk and indie rock movements. Their 1976 self-titled album, featuring iconic tracks like “Roadrunner” and “Pablo Picasso,” remains a touchstone of rock music.
