He received Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle awards for his star turn in Kiss Me, Kate. He also gave Tony-nominated performances in Man of La Mancha, August Wilson’s King Hedley II, and Ragtime. In 2016 he was awarded his second Tony Award, the Isabelle Stevenson Tony for his work with The Actors Fund.

His illustrious career has been honored with a Tony Award for Outstanding Actor in "Kiss Me, Kate," alongside nominations for his roles in "Man of La Mancha," "Ragtime," and "King Hedley II." Beyond his artistic achievements, Mitchell's humanitarian efforts have been recognized with the Isabelle Stevenson Award, a Tony honoring his contributions to the community, and his induction into the Theatre Hall of Fame. Notably, his heartfelt renditions of "The Impossible Dream" from his apartment window during his recovery from Covid became a symbol of hope and gratitude towards essential workers.

For this gala event, Brian Stokes Mitchell will be accompanied by a talented trio consisting of Tedd Firth on piano, Clint de Ganon on drums, and Paul Beaudry on bass, ensuring an evening filled with mesmerizing performances. Dubbed “The Last Leading Man” by the New York Times, Brian Stokes Mitchell has enjoyed a rich and varied career on Broadway, television and film, along with appearances in the great American concert halls.  His Broadway career includes performances in “Man of La Mancha” (Tony nomination and Helen Hayes Award); “Kiss Me Kate” (Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards); “Ragtime” (Tony nomination); August Wilson’s “King Hedley II” (Tony nomination); “Kiss of the Spider Woman;” “Jelly’s Last Jam;” and David Merrick’s “Oh, Kay!” and “Mail,” which earned him a Theatre World award for outstanding Broadway Debut.
His long television career began with a seven-year stint on “Trapper John, M.D.” Numerous film and TV appearances more recently include his role on “Glee” as one of Rachel Berry’s (Lea Michele) two dads, alongside Jeff Goldblum; “One Last Thing” which debuted at Toronto’s 2005 Film Festival, recurring roles on “Crossing Jordan” and “Frasier,” PBS’ “Great Performances,” DreamWorks’ “The Prince of Egypt”; and his “Presidential Debut” in “The Singer and the Song” from the White House.

Whether it’s his unique blend of jazz and classical, his undeniable gift for lyricism or his legacy to the Broadway musical, Leonard Bernstein remains a beloved American original.
