His arrangements and recording of the music of John Cage are the first to be sanctioned by the John Cage Trust, are published by Edition Peters, and have received international accolades. His 11 solo albums have earned over 10 million streams, and include albums dedicated to J.S. Bach, John Cage, Spanish romantic and flamenco composers, contemporary composers, and his own music. Shin-ichi Fukuda began playing the classical guitar at the age of eleven under the direction of Tatsuya Saitoh and has since pursued a brilliant career as a leading guitarist. He has performed with orchestras and as a solo recitalist in concert halls around the world, including New York’s Merkin Concert Hall, Tokyo’s Metropolitan Museum, and Athens’s Megaron Concert Hall. Fukuda has earned international acclaim for his musicianship, receiving first prizes in the 1st Carpentras International Guitar Competition and the 23rd Paris International Competition, as well as top prizes in competitions and festivals in Italy, Spain, and Japan. Fukuda’s repertoire spans from the Renaissance to today, and he has premiered many pieces by 21st-century composers, such as Leo Brouwer’s Concerto da Requiem, an homage to Toru Takemitsu that is dedicated to Fukuda. A highly gifted and enthusiastic teacher, Fukuda is a guest professor at Shanghai Conservatory in China and has trained many pupils who have gone on to attain the highest honors, including Kaori Muraji, Daisuke Suzuki, and Yasuji Ohagi. He has produced 84 recordings in a career that spans more than four decades.

The acclaimed Moroccan-Hungarian pianist makes a welcome return to Wigmore Hall with a programme representing a fusion of cultures, with works by Spanish composers interspersing pieces by the Egyptian Gamal Abdel-Rahim (1924-88), the Lebanese Abdelhak Masri (1950-2007), the Cypriot-American Anis Fuleihan (1900-70) and the Moroccan Nabil Benabdeljalil (born 1972).

This year's Opening Matinee, titled "Strings of Summer," features a stellar lineup of musicians, including violinist Joe Genualdi, cellist Steven Doane, and harpist Bridget Kibbey. Together, they will weave a tapestry of sound, performing a program that spans the breadth of classical music. The repertoire includes Saint-Saëns' Fantasy for Violin and Harp, Op. 124, Fauré's Serenade, Op. 98, and Debussy's Arabesque No. 1, among other masterpieces.

Curiously, it’s often been French composers who’ve expressed Spain’s essence, as in Chabrier’s España, inspired by folk musicians he heard there on holiday. Bizet showed similar flair in his opera, Carmen, the colourful Suite No.1 concluding with the famous Toreadors’ March. But to capture the country’s soul, turn to a Spaniard: Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, performed by an always welcome Hallé guest, guitarist Craig Ogden.

Alessio Bax’s exceptional lyricism and consummate technique led him to capture First Prize at both the Leeds and Hamamatsu International Piano Competitions and catapulted him to prominence. He is now a familiar face on five continents, not only as a recitalist and chamber musician, but also as a concerto soloist who has appeared with more than 150 orchestras, including the London, Royal, and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestras, the New York, Boston, Dallas, Cincinnati, Sydney, and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestras, and the NHK Symphony in Japan.

Reflections on love languages. Human concepts of love and romance, as well as the complicated and sometimes messy emotions associated with them, have remained the primary basis of inspiration for artistic expression throughout history. Music and dance in particular, have been most popularly used in courtship and conveying adoration toward a partner. This concert will explore the love languages of music and dance that came about in the 1920s and 30s, when tango first burst into the mainstream. Classical guitarist, Krzysztof Meisinger will present an audibly stunning interpretation of some of the most famous tango pieces ever written.

If the tutelary figure of Bach hovers over the evening, it is to better reinvent him, to decline links between places and eras, with dance as a fixed idea. Thus, the First Partita responds to a Chaconne for orchestra and mandolin by the composer Aziza Sadikova from Uzbekistan, while tango and klezmer accents smile on the Andalusia of Asturias of Albeniz. We are delighted to welcome guitarist JIJI, known for her virtuosity and command of diverse repertoire, to Tippet Rise for the first time. Performing outdoors on the land at the Domo by Ensamble Studio, JIJI’s program Counterpoint Dream, takes us on a musical journey in and out of several centuries including Baroque-period works by the 16th century nun Claudia Sessa, Marin Marais and J.S. Bach, Romantic virtuosos Niccolò Paganini and Isaac Albéniz, Haitian guitarist and composer Frantz Casseus, and American minimalist Steve Reich. The program also includes with works by Antón García-Abril – a special tribute to the great Catalan composer and father of Ensamble Studio’s principal architect of the same name, whose other-worldly structures, including the Domo, are integral to the Tippet Rise experience.

The South Bay Guitar Society, furthering its mission to support local music education, is pleased to present guitarist Julio Reyes in this special concert to benefit Pajaro Middle School in Watsonville, Calif.

Proceeds from this performance will assist Pajaro Middle School's music department replace equipment damaged in the devastating floods of March 10, 2023, in the Pajaro Valley.
