The Orchestra shines as it unfolds the leitmotifs of Wagner's sixth opera: a universal conflict between eroticism and moral duty. Canada's rising violin star, Kerson Leong, transforms this dramatic intensity into symbolist intimacy with Chausson's Poème , the composer's most emblematic work. The score is inspired by a fantastical short story by Turgenev, in which a melody played on the violin creates a spell.

An all-French programme whose first half – 150 years after the composer’s death – celebrates the bright, exotic colours conjured by Bizet. Drama meets Romance: When the Norwegian national poet Henrik Ibsen and his compatriot, the Norwegian Edward Grieg, met in Rome in 1866, they immediately hit it off. It's no wonder that Ibsen later asked the composer to write the music for his play "Peer Gynt" - at that time, it was almost unthinkable to stage a major theater production without incidental music. But as good as the music was - it would have long been forgotten if Grieg had not compiled it into two suites for orchestra. Today, the work, with the flute melody from "Morning Mood" or the striking sounds of the bassoon in "In the Hall of the Mountain King," is considered quintessential romantic music. As a grand finale to the Dresden City Festival, the Dresden Philharmonic will present it open-air on Theaterplatz under the direction of Tabita Berglund - who could be more suitable for this than the newly appointed First Guest Conductor from Norway?

For its 20th anniversary, the festival launched the "Sleeping Beauties" series to highlight monuments that were in decline and urgently needed to be saved. The series was held for a second time in 2020, and now, for its 35th anniversary, we're picking up the thread again.

Palma de Mallorca meets Barcelona—at least in the form of the two Spanish virtuosos Francisco Fullana and Alba Ventura. But their predominantly Spanish program also combines—figuratively speaking—idyllic island life with the vibrant metropolis: The two talents, who have joined forces for a CD recording in 2023, bring with them works such as Joaquín Turina's atmospheric "Sonata española," Enrique Granado's spirited violin sonata, and Pablo de Sarasate's famous and fiery "Zigeunerweisen." In this concert project, presented exclusively at the Rheingau Music Festival, Linus Roth and Anabel Montesinos present well-known works by Spanish composers. And, of course, one thing cannot be missing from a Spanish Night: flamenco. It will be diverse and passionate when Rocio Osuna and Juan Carlos Sánchez bring this cultural heritage to the stage, lending the Rheingau a southern European flair.

Eleven weeks of music lie ahead when the 38th Rheingau Music Festival opens at the end of June in the basilica of Eberbach Monastery. Eleven weeks full of musical diversity and enjoyable conviviality. We think it's a good reason to celebrate! In 2025, the opening concert of the Rheingau Music Festival will feature a wide range of diverse sounds: works by Maurice Ravel, whose 150th birthday the music world and we too are celebrating this year, by Pablo de Sarasate, Franz Waxman, and Charles Gounod—namely, his solemn "Cecilia Mass"—will immerse the monastery in musical color this evening. In keeping with tradition, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, under its chief conductor Alain Altinoglu, will take to the stage, bringing the unique architectural monument to life in rich musical splendor at the opening of this year's Rheingau Music Festival.

In keeping with tradition, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt), under the baton of its chief conductor, opens the Rheingau Music Festival each year. The impressive acoustics of the Eberbach Abbey Basilica always create a unique musical atmosphere. The centerpiece of the 2025 opening concerts, conducted by Alain Altinoglu, is Charles Gounod's "St. Cecilia Mass." On June 21st at Eberbach Abbey, this will be paired with a Ravel-Sarasate-Waxman program featuring the Armenian violin virtuoso Diana Adamyan. On June 22nd at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden, two works by Ravel will be performed with the Italian pianist Beatrice Rana. Alongside an internationally renowned trio of vocal soloists, the MDR Radio Choir, the hr-Sinfonieorchester's well-known and highly esteemed musical partner, will once again be featured in both programs.

A frequent guest artist at music festivals worldwide, he recently stepped in for Anne-Sophie Mutter at Bravo! Vail Music Festival playing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 with Chamber Orchestra Vienna-Berlin as well as recital debuts at the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland and Aspen Music Festival, both to critical acclaim. José Silvestre de los Dolores White (1835-1918), also known as José White and Joseph White, was born in Matanzas, Cuba, during colonial times. He began playing the violin and composing at a young age. His professional debut occurred in 1854 alongside the American pianist Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869), who inspired him to study at the Paris Conservatoire. There, he won the Premier Prix after less than one year of study. White gained global recognition as a soloist, composer, and pedagogue and, in the United States, he notably became the first soloist of African descent to perform with the New York Philharmonic Society, during his 1875-1876 tour.

Mikko Franck frames the program with two works by Richard Strauss: his thrilling portrait of the notorious Spanish libertine and his loving and graceful tribute to the Viennese waltz
