Born and raised in Los Angeles, Albright was already an accomplished saxophonist by the time he enrolled at the University of Redlands, but he switched to bass after he saw Louis Johnson in concert. A few months after graduating from college, he joined jazz pianist/R&B singer Patrice Rushen, who was in the process of forming her own band. Later, when the bassist left in the middle of a tour, Albright replaced him and finished the tour on bass guitar. Playing both sax and bass, he became the consummate session and touring musician in the 80s, working with everyone from Anita Baker, Ray Parker, Jr., Atlantic Starr, The Temptations and Maurice White to Les McCann, Teena Marie, the Winans and Whitney Houston.

The joy that emanates from guitarist Norman Brown is palpable — the guitar is simply an extension of the man. A musician’s musician, he has collaborated with George Benson, Brian McKnight, Kirk Whalum, Miki Howard, Jeff Lorber, Gerald Albright, Rick Braun, Chanté Moore, Peabo Bryson and many more over the past three decades. Brown’s many accolades include a Grammy Award and a Soul Train Music Award.

Saxophonist Gerald Albright, one of the biggest stars of R&B, contemporary, and straight-ahead jazz, has earned his reputation as a “musician’s musician.”  He's earned nine Grammy nominations including one this year for Best Improvised Jazz Solo.  Albright has appeared in the television programs A Different World, Melrose Place and jazz segments for Black Entertainment Television, as well as piloting a show in Las Vegas with Meshach Taylor of Designing Women. He was one of ten saxophonists to perform at the inauguration of President Bill Clinton. n September 2021 Gerald Albright received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joseph R. Biden.
