Join us for an unforgettable evening with the highly acclaimed singer and actress Renée Elise Goldsberry at "An Evening With Renée Elise Goldsberry," presented by the Piedmont Wind Symphony. This special event will take place on Saturday, January 27, at 7:30 PM at Wait Chapel, located on the scenic campus of Wake Forest University.

Renée Elise Goldsberry, celebrated for her role as Angelica Schuyler in the Broadway phenomenon "Hamilton," will grace the stage with her extraordinary voice, performing a fantastic array of movie and Broadway favorites. Audiences can look forward to a diverse selection of performances, including a medley from "Rent," the soul-stirring "Bridge Over Troubled Water," the uplifting "You’ll Never Walk Alone," and beloved "Hamilton" hits such as "It’s Quiet Uptown," "Schuyler Sisters," and "Satisfied." Additionally, the Piedmont Wind Symphony will reprise Omar Thomas’ "Come Sunday," under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Mark A. Norman.

This event promises to be a night of spectacular music and storytelling, showcasing Renée Elise Goldsberry's incredible talent alongside the accomplished Piedmont Wind Symphony. An Evening With Renee Elise Goldsberry

Claudia Shassberger is a junior tuba player currently studying at the Carnegie Mellon School of Music under the guidance of Craig Knox, Principal Tuba of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Passionate about the tuba, Claudia aims to break traditional stereotypes and showcase the instrument's versatility beyond its perceived "oom pah" role. She is an accomplished orchestral, chamber, and solo tuba player who aspires to establish a career as a soloist. Claudia has played in numerous pit orchestras and recently contributed to a production of "Ragtime" in Interlochen, Michigan. Additionally, she has performed with the Between the Lakes Brass Quintet. Claudia has performed in renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and the New World Center. Committed to advocating for female and underrepresented musicians, Claudia aims to collaborate with and establish organizations that support female brass players. She hopes to inspire the next generation of female tuba players. During her free time, she enjoys baking and taking walks with her dog, Angus.

Voices Of America: Come Sunday

The Symphonic Band’s second winter-quarter concert features five contemporary voices who are adding fresh perspectives to the wind band medium. Adam Schoenberg conceived his two-movement work Rise as a piece that could bookend an entire program, and the ensemble will honor this vision by separating the two movements. Omar Thomas’s setting of the well-known folk song “Shenandoah” is, in the words of the composer, “mysterious, somewhat ominous, constantly introspective, and deeply soulful.” Kevin Charoensri’s Rising Light is a powerful statement about anti-Asian hate and represents his non-apologetic celebration of the bicultural identity of Asian Americans. Kevin Day’s energetic Shimmering Sunshine opens the second half of the program, followed by Ryan George’s An Gé Fhiáin (The Wild Goose), a celebration of the Celtic people and their belief that the Holy Spirit was represented by this wild, untamed bird.
