Due to the renovation of the Frankfurt Concert Hall, we are moving part of our chamber music series to the event hall of the Frankfurt Kleist Museum this season. This is a fitting opportunity for this Sunday matinee, as this museum will be opening the exhibition "Kleist and Music" in the fall of 2025. With this matinee, we are providing a piece of accompanying music to this show and to Kleist's era. The poet Heinrich von Kleist not only played the clarinet himself, but with Johann Baptist Vanhal and Iwan Müller, we have two of his contemporaries in the program. In Müller, we also have a clarinetist and composer who, as an instrument maker, made significant contributions to the further development of the clarinet.

Jonathan Tetelman makes his Elbphilharmonie debut with a sonorous journey through the most beautiful tenor arias from the great operas of Puccini, Verdi and others.

The band's farewell concert on this beautiful stage requires ravishing music and a fantastic soloist. The Danish opera star Brit-Tone Müllertz, who is world-renowned on the opera stage, will enchant the audience with arias from the most beloved works in opera and operetta literature. Livgarden's Music Corps will also deliver exuberant waltzes, tight marches and soft sounds from Baermann's Adagio with clarinetist Martin Kejser. The concert is led by conductor Giordano Bellincampi, who has served as artistic director of the Livgardens Music Corps during this period when Stærekassen has been the home of the music corps.

The fanfare from Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, one of the very first operas, sets us on a path through Mozart, Rossini, Puccini, Bellini, and Ponchielli’s “Dance of the Hours,” now best known as the hippopotamus ballet from Fantasia. The SLSO’s Associate Concertmaster Erin Schreiber gives a virtuoso turn in Sarasate’s Fantasy on Bizet’s Carmen. Associate Principal Cello Melissa Brooks performs Bellini’s mellifluous melodies

George Gershwin was inspired by a trip to Cuba for his Cuban Overture. Let the toe-tapping commence with selections from Slavonic Dance composed by Antonín Dvořák, Piazzolla’s Tangos, and Manuel de Falla’s Suite No. 1 from The Three-Cornered Hat to Cinco de Salsa and music from Lord of the Dance.
