Join us for a captivating afternoon at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center with "The Carnival of the Animals" by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. This enchanting event is scheduled for Sunday, August 18, 2024, at 3:00 pm in the intimate setting of the Spa Little Theater.

The program promises a rich and varied experience, starting with Baroque works for diverse instrumental combinations. Highlights include Ravel’s Introduction et allegro for an unusual ensemble of harp, flute, clarinet, and string quartet. The summer season finale at SPAC will be Saint-Saëns’s "Carnival of the Animals" in its original instrumentation for chamber ensemble, offering a riotously fun depiction of animals ranging from turtles and kangaroos to lions, birds, and, humorously, even pianists.

The performance will feature an impressive lineup of musicians, including Wu Han and Wu Qian on piano, Sooyun Kim on flute, David Shifrin on clarinet, Bridget Kibbey on harp, Ian David Rosenbaum and Ayano Kataoka on percussion, Richard Lin and Francisco Fullana on violin, Guillermo Figueroa on viola, Sterling Elliott on cello, and Nina Bernat on double bass.

- Bach’s Concerto in A major for Keyboard, Strings, and Continuo, BWV 1055 c. 1738-39
- Vivaldi’s Concerto in D major for Flute, Strings, and Continuo, RV 428, Il gardellino 1729
- Ravel’s Introduction et allegro for Harp, Flute, Clarinet, and String Quartet 1905
- Saint-Saëns’s Le carnaval des animaux for Ensemble 1886
