A celebration of American stories and voices, ROCO In Concert: Do You Hear What I Hear? welcomes conductor Anthony Parnther in his ROCO debut, with guest concertmaster Tereza Stanislav, leading the 40-piece chamber orchestra on Saturday, February 7, 5:00 p.m. at The Church of St. John the Divine. Featured are Duke Ellington’s New World A-Comin’, spotlighting ROCO pianist Audrey Andrist, and the premiere of Patricia Leonard‘s Persistence of the Dream, a ROCO commission commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, along with the ROCO commissioned premieres of Gala Flagello’s Droughts & Downpours for string orchestra, and Jason Stephens’ rescore of Antonin Dvořák’s New World Symphony.

Gala Flagello will return to Delaware to introduce her composition Bravado, which was written for the Tanglewood Orchestra last year. Dylana Jenson, a renowned violinist who received the Silver Medal at the Tchaikovsky Competition and has performed at Carnegie Hall, will play Brahms's only violin concerto. The Symphony will close the concert by performing Carl Nielsen's second symphony, The Four Temparaments.

The BBC Symphony Orchestra under the baton of conductor Matthew Lynch, making his BBC SO debut, presents a free concert of exciting contemporary and classic works.

Hear world premieres of brand new works by composer and jazz pianist Pete Letanka, and composer and jazz saxophonist Jason Yarde. Béla Bartók’s Hungarian Sketches brings a touch of folk-inspired brilliance, while Gala Flagello’s Vitality pulses with energy. The programme also includes a selection of Eleanor Alberga’s Dances from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, each movement capturing a unique moment from the beloved tale.

Recipient of a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award and an Avery Fisher Career Grant, violinist Alexi Kenney was named “a talent to watch” by The New York Times. He has earned widespread acclaim across the globe and returns to Santa Fe in February 2024 performing Barber’s Violin Concerto for “American Classics.” Also on the program are works by Bernstein, Copland, and Gala Flagello. Presented as part of the Art + Sol Santa Fe Winter Arts Festival.

Vitality, a new work by Michigan composer Gala Flagello, will open the concert to share music, and meet you.

You have been asking for the Gray Chapel organ,  and we have it for you a second time! The Poulenc, one of the most performed organ concertos, will be performed by concert organist Amanda Mole from Columbus as the soloist.

Join us for the spring performance of the Michigan Youth Symphonic Band, the Michigan Youth Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Michigan Youth Symphony Orchestra. These ensembles are part of the Michigan Youth Ensembles (MYE) program, which brings together exceptional high school students for weekly rehearsals at SMTD. MYE Students, who are selected by audition, have the opportunity to engage in a stimulating environment, while learning from U-M conductors, applied faculty, and graduate students.

A powerful program that bridges sound, imagery, and urgent storytelling. Mussorgsky’s iconic Pictures at an Exhibition is brought to life with film, transforming this classic suite into a multi-sensory journey through music and art.

Paired with it is The Bird-While by Gala Flagello, a 2024 Sousa-ABA Ostwald Composition Contest finalist. This striking concerto for flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and winds—based on Keith Taylor’s poem “Acolytes in the Bird-While”—explores the beauty of Michigan’s ecosystems and the human struggle to persist in the face of climate change. Featuring guest soloists from "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, this performance brings extraordinary artistry to a message of environmental urgency.
