Violist

The Thinking Musician is a project featuring Mark Messenger – violin, chamber music, co-founder and director of the course, Maria Tarasewicz – piano, duo coaching, co-founder and director of the course, Andriy Viytovych, named First Viola of the Orchestra by the Royal Opera House Covent garden in 2000, and Gemma Rosefield, winner of the Pierre Fournier Award in 2007. First Thinking Musician course took place in Belgium in 2017 in a philosophical commune of thinkers in Belgium and since then travelled to the Italian mountains and Canary Islands and have performed in venues from market places to monasteries, private homes to concert halls. Created by Mark Messenger and Maria Tarasewicz, The Thinking Musician’s first goal is to provoke intellectually the artist within and to liberate their creativity. Formal music education often limits the freedom of the artist, focusing on the craft of playing rather than the art of creative expression, and not always treating the developing performer as a holistic human being who already possesses imagination and sensitivity.
