In Spring 2024, Zalman Raffael will revisit his Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2. “Rachmaninoff’s music is more than just evocative, it invokes a sense of spirituality, triumph and courage, but also alludes to elegance.”

For the first time, composer Paul Moravec will orchestrate his classical music for this production of Robert Weiss’ Time Gallery. These ballets will illustrate classical ballet’s vocabulary as seen through the work of two contemporary choreographers.

Among the most difficult of all the popular piano concertos, it was written by one of the greatest pianists who ever lived: Sergei Rachmaninov (a composer who, let’s be honest, had huge hands). For all its difficulty, the Third is equally charming to the listener. To pull off this feat of artistry and virtuosity, the ASO welcomes one of the best: pianist Garrick Ohlsson. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Music Director Laureate Robert Spano returns for a two-week residency. The longtime leader of the ASO brings with him an old friend of the Orchestra, Emmy Award-winning composer Adam Schoenberg for the world premiere of his Concerto for Orchestra.

In November 1918, Sergei Rachmaninoff arrived in his newfound homeland, the United States, after a tumultuous year fleeing the political unrest of his native Russia. Through this thoughtfully constructed program, pianist Conrad Tao presents a fascinating dialogue between Rachmaninoff’s former and present homes, discussing the power of old world and new, tradition and innovation.
