Dr. Jeremy McBain is a trumpet professor at the University of Texas at Tyler, where he teaches applied trumpet, brass chamber music, brass methods, and arranging. He previously taught at Eastern Illinois University, Millikin University, and Saint Mary’s College. An active performer, McBain is principal trumpet of the Texarkana Symphony and a member of the Rose City Brass Quintet and Jazz Orchestra. He has also played with numerous ensembles including the East Texas Symphony and the Bach Society of Houston, and has performed with artists like Doc Severinsen and Michael Brecker. He holds a DMA from the University of Illinois, with earlier degrees from the University of Michigan and University of Houston.

The LSU Wind Ensemble concludes their academic year with "The Music Around Us", a program celebrating works inspired by the world we inhabit. The evening opens with Gershwin’s lively Cuban Overture, followed by Lili Boulanger’s vivid and colorful D’un Matin de Printemps. Closing the first half is the world premiere of a concerto composed by LSU’s own Professor Willis Delony, blending his expertise in piano and jazz. After intermission, the program will conclude with Steven Bryant’s Concerto for Wind Ensemble, an immersive and electrifying showcase of the ensemble’s virtuosity.

Join the LSU Symphonic Winds for a thrilling evening that features a variety of powerful and innovative works for wind band. This thrilling concert will feature Steven Bryant's monumental electro-acoustic masterpiece Ecstatic Waters, a boundary-pushing work that blends traditional and electronic elements. The program also includes stunning pieces by Kim Archer, David Biedenbender, Ola Gjeilo, and Michael Colgrass, showcasing a wide range of expressive and dynamic compositions.

LSU Symphonic Winds: "Harmonies of Tomorrow"

Join us for the Season Premiere of the Oklahoma Chamber Symphony's "Celestial Celebrations Holst 150" on Saturday, September 28, 2024, from 7:00 PM to 8:15 PM at the First Church OKC, located at 131 Northwest 4th Street, Oklahoma City, OK, 73102, United States. This special concert commemorates the 150th birthday of the renowned composer Gustav Holst with a performance of his galactic masterpiece, "The Planets." Additionally, the evening will feature the world premiere of a new piece by OCS Composer in Residence Clint Williams, inspired by the theme of Pluto, and "In This Broad Earth" by Steven Bryant, a tribute to our home planet, originally composed for concert band and rescored for orchestra in 2021.

The program includes:

- CLINT WILLIAMS, Composer in Residence: World Premiere Performance 2024 (5 mins)
- HOLST: The Planets, op. 32 1916 (51 mins)

Under the direction of Music Director & Conductor Kaleb Benda, with Katie Crim as Conducting Fellow and featuring Clint Williams, Composer in Residence, alongside the talented Musicians of the Oklahoma Chamber Symphony, this event promises an unforgettable evening of celestial music.

Facing the harsh reality that everyone he’s ever known was tragically killed in a school shooting, Boy grapples with his emotions in his final moments by weaving together a story resembling J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan. As the play unfolds, Boy’s story begins to crumble. These young women, these mermaids, compete to be heard. They are the swim team – powerful and sometimes monstrous. Among them is Wendy, the only person Boy has ever felt understands him—until she doesn’t. This powerful drama tackles toxic masculinity and gun violence as Wendy and the other women take back their story. Blending dance and theatre, Dust plays like a musical score infused with poetry, giving voice to the unspeakable.

“Suite Dreams” is a concert showcasing a blend of sweet treats and dances, featuring compositions from various artists, notably composer Steven Bryant’s piece titled “Suite Dreams.” This work mainly reinterprets the inverted chaconne melody found in Gustav Holst's “First Suite in E-Flat,” presenting it with a dreamlike quality, as if fragmented memories of the original drifted across the stage.

Primarily for non-music majors who desire a concert band experience, the University and Campus Bands are open to the entire U-M community and offer a great opportunity to enjoy an immersive musical experience and to learn from SMTD’s renowned faculty. The University Band is the most advanced non-music-major band and placement is by audition. Campus Band is open to any student with experience.
