In this concert, we invite you to explore both sides of Mozart’s mercurial nature, and to marvel that a device designed to frighten wolves creates such mellifluous and glowing music.

Mozart loved the horn, and the finest player of the day, Joseph Leutgeb, was an old friend of the family. Mozart wrote what would become one of the most enduringly popular horn concertos of all time for his friend. Characterised as a “little love duet” between horn and violin, this work is a joyous expression of their friendship.

Vienna served as the epicenter of much of Europe’s musical output for centuries, with composers like Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven comprising the notable members of the “First” Viennese school, and the “Second” including the likes of Schoenberg, Berg, and Webern. Immerse yourself in the exquisite world of chamber music with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks at two enchanting concerts. The first performance will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 8:00 pm in the majestic Max Joseph Saal of the Munich Residence. The musical journey continues on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 6:00 pm at the serene Evangelische Akademie in Tutzing.

These chamber concerts will showcase a carefully curated program that includes Michael Haydn's Quartet for English horn, Violin, Cello, and Bass in C Major, P 115, and Ludwig van Beethoven's Serenade in D Major, Op. 8. After an interval, the audience will be treated to Gioacchino Rossini's Duetto in D Major "Al suo amico Salomons" and Jean Françaix's Quartet for English horn, violin, viola, and cello.

The performances will feature the exceptional talents of Tobias Vogelmann on the English horn, Thomas Reif on the violin, Carla Usberti on the viola, Uta Zenke-Vogelmann on the violoncello, and José Sebastiao Trigo on the double bass.
