In a spectacular tour-de-force Season Opening, The Symphony continues its impactful tradition of performing arts collaboration to create new experiences for the community. More than 150 performers from State Street Ballet, Santa Barbara Choral Society, Quire of Voyces and the Music Academy’s Sing! Children’s Chorus join The Symphony on stage in a program that features a new ballet to Gabrielle Fauré’s pensive Pavane, a wildly decadent ode to wine and fertility with Camille Saint-Saëns’ Danse Bacchanale from the opera Samson and Delilah, and concludes with Carl Orff’s beloved and powerful Carmina Burana. This concert is part of the Granada Synergy Series.

An exciting evening of visionary works, A Gala Performance showcases the best of State Street Ballet’s repertoire. Appalachian Spring, with choreography by Artistic Director William Soleau. The pas de deux from Executive Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson’s Romeo and Juliet. The intricate movements and athleticism of (con)version by Kassandra Taylor Newberry; upbeat music of Lawrence Welk in Laurie Eisenhower’s vivacious Bubbles; and the virtuosic elegance of the pas de deux from Don Quixote.
This legendary event will also pay tribute to beloved patrons Sara Miller McCune, Carrie Towbes, Margo Cohen-Feinberg, and Tim Mikel, and honor the great legacies of Léni Fé Bland and Michael Towbes.

A Gala Performance

Lobero Theatre

A fully staged musical and artistic collaboration, directed by Broadway’s Lonny Price, featuring the Santa Barbara Symphony, State Street Ballet, and a cast of performers from across the globe. Kismet is one of Broadways’ most renowned musicals. With three Tony Awards (including Best Musical), a smash film, and made-for-television special, it has a lush score from the soaring melodies of Alexander Borodin. Kismet is both complex and extraordinarily simple with its themes of love and faith and the sense of destiny that is never far from us.
