Join us for an exquisite Chamber Music Workshop titled "Music in the Vineyards" on Saturday, August 17th, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm. This unique event, "An Echo in the Vineyards," will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 1333 3rd St, Napa, CA 94559. 

Designed for accomplished adult enthusiasts, including advanced high school and college students, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to meet like-minded musicians and play in small ensembles. Participants will receive ensemble music in advance to prepare for a collaborative and enriching experience. 

The workshop will feature guidance and insights from Michael Adams and the 2024 Fellowship String Quartet, the Cabaletta Quartet. Attendees who also purchase tickets for the Community Concert at 5 pm will enjoy reserved front-row seating and the chance to participate in the Pachelbel play-along.

The repertoire includes timeless pieces such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Luigi Boccherini's Night Music of the Streets of Madrid, Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins and Strings, Giovanni Bottesini's Grand Duo Concertante, and Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D Major.

Participation is priced at $10 per student, with free admission for students. This workshop not only promises a day filled with beautiful chamber music but also offers a platform for musicians to connect and create lasting memories.

The Baton Rouge Symphony kicks off the 2022-2023 Lamar Family Chamber Series with a night of beer, brats, and Bach.

Concertmaster Peter Hanson presents an evening of intimate musical conversations, including six Baroque favorites featuring multiple soloists ending with Pachelbel’s famous Canon in D.  “Think of this program as an evening of brilliant soloists trading melodic ideas in an extended dialogue,” said Peter Hanson.  The centerpiece of the program is Bach’s beautiful Concerto for Two Violins, performed by Peter Hanson and Cynthia Roberts, principal 2nd violin and one of America’s leading period instrument violinists. The “Bach Double” features a second movement that ranks as some of the composer’s most beautiful instrumental music.  Pachelbel’s Canon is joyful and mesmerizing. The piece presents three solo violins and continuo repeating the same bass line 28 times while the three solo violins perform a canon (or round) on top. The work’s harmonic progression has been used by countless pop stars, making Pachelbel’s piece one of the most influential to modern times from the Baroque era.  Other featured soloists with Peter Hanson include violinists Edwin Huizinga and Johanna Novom and principal oboist Gonzalo X. Ruiz.

This program of soulful and moving compositions by four of the German Baroque’s most masterful composers begins with a 10-part setting of “Christ lag in Todesbanden” by Johann Pachelbel. Its seven movements unfold the deep richness of the composer’s reflections on the Easter text that Bach would later use for one of his earliest cantatas. And from the pen of one of Bach’s favorite composers, Dieterich Buxtehude, comes a bittersweet setting of the famous Eastertide chorale, “Jesu, meine Freude,” that would have been a great inspiration to Bach when he composed his own motet setting of the same verses several decades later. One of Bach’s earliest surviving cantatas, “Der Herr denket an uns” (Psalm 115: “The Lord is mindful of us”) is a joyful celebration of gratitude and blessedness that was probably composed to celebrate the wedding of the minister who had married Bach and his wife, Maria Barbara, about a year earlier. The Passion-themed orbit of this program finds its greatest resonance in a truly hypnotic and almost trance-inducing setting of the Saint Matthew Passion by Johann Theile. From its first movement to its last, Theile’s music mesmerizes the listener and grippingly captivates that attention until the final note.

Under the baton of Principal Guest Conductor Nicholas Kraemer, the Music of the Baroque Chorus and Members of the Orchestra will showcase their incredible talent and versatility. The program features a rich tapestry of compositions from the Renaissance to the Baroque period, including works by Tallis, Palestrina, Purcell, Monteverdi, Byrd, Pachelbel, Rameau, and Bach.

The concert series will highlight the shimmering sounds of Palestrina and Byrd, the intricate compositions of Purcell, and culminate in the high energy of Bach’s "Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied" (Sing unto the Lord a new song), BWV 225. This selection of music not only showcases the technical prowess of the performers but also the emotional depth and spiritual uplift inherent in Baroque music.

"Celestial Voices" will be performed at two iconic locations, offering audiences a choice of venues to experience the magic of Baroque music. The first performance will take place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at 7:30 PM at the Faith, Hope, & Charity Church in Winnetka. The series will continue with a performance on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 7:30 PM at the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago. For those unable to attend in person, an on-demand performance will be available on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 5:00 PM.
