In our traditional organ concert on New Year's Eve, the queen of instruments and four tubas come together in an unusual combination. Together, Katharina Königsfeld and the Melton Tuba Quartet present well-known classics in a new light. From the delicate, dance-like melodies of Tchaikovsky's "Flower Waltz," to the rapid Allegro from Rossini's overture of the opera "William Tell" with its dramatic energy, to Badinerie and March by Bach - the artful arrangements for organ and tuba also make his music shine in completely new colors. From profound passages to festive sounds - this evening is a musical highlight that bids farewell to the old year with style and energetically accompanies you into the new year! Join us for an enchanting evening of euphonium music featuring the talented Oliver Stark, a Master of Music student under the guidance of Matthew Gaunt and Gene Pokorny. This solo recital is set to take place on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at 6:00pm CDT in the Regenstein Master Class Room at the Bienen School of Music, Northwestern University.

Oliver Stark will perform a captivating program that includes John Stevens' "Elegy for solo euphonium," Gail Robertson's "Rock Hopper," Michael Forbes' "Cosmic Voyage," and arrangements by Oliver Stark himself, including Karl Jenkins' "Benedictus" from The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, and Philip Sparke's "Pantomime." This event promises to be a showcase of Stark's virtuosity and the expressive capabilities of the euphonium.

The recital will also feature performances by a brass ensemble and a euphonium quartet, including musicians Chris Carrigg, Evan DeRicco, Noah Vincent, and others, under the direction of conductor Imran Amarshi.

This event is free and open to the public, with no tickets required. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream will be available, ensuring that music lovers everywhere can enjoy this exceptional performance.
