Following on from Puccini’s LA RONDINE and Johann Strauss’s DIE FLEDERMAUS, Rolando Villazón returns to the Deutsche Oper Berlin to tackle one of the great comedies of the bel canto genre and demonstrate that he can do humour. L’ITALIANA IN ALGERI remains one of the most popular works by Gioacchino Rossini, who is said to have dashed the piece off in less than a month and was a tender 21 years of age when the opera premiered at Venice’s Teatro San Benedetto in 1813. It’s a testament to Rossini’s boldness that he chose material that had been set to music only a few years before by his more experienced colleague Luigi Mosca. His audacity paid off, with the subsequent triumph bringing him immediate fame across Italy and widespread popularity soon afterwards throughout Europe.

The Orchestra Now Resident Conductor Zachary Schwartzman returns with the orchestra to Symphony Space for another free concert of audience favorites. The program comprises Rossini’s immensely popular William Tell Overture, Gounod’s glittering ballet music from his opera Faust, and the famous Symphony in D Minor of French composer César Franck.

Rossini’s bright and sunny overture preludes one of the most famous and popular of all concertos, suffused with the sun-drenched melodies and balmy atmosphere of southern Spain; its achingly beautiful slow movement is perhaps the most sublime pieces of music ever written. The Spanish passion continues with Chabrier’s dazzling rhapsody and Rimsky-Korsakov’s vibrant and colourful suite. In contrast, Borodin’s tone poem evokes the sweeping plains of central Asia, whilst nightmarish visions abound in Mussorgsky’s dark and brooding depiction of a Witches Sabbath.

This is a concert entirely dedicated to one of the greatest composers of the 19th century  . Born in Pesaro (on the Adriatic coast) in 1792 and died in Paris in 1868, Gioachino Rossini is the author of some of the most famous operas in the world. Five string players from the OPRL join forces to resonate the well-known themes from the overtures to The Barber of Seville and William Tell , but also to rediscover Rossini's chamber music through duets and sonatas, all presented with humor and lightness by Pierre Solot, exceptionally borrowed from the Music Factory series.

Love tangles, deception, double standards: Rossini ignites a fast-paced firework display in the lively overture to his opera La scala di seta. Hardly anyone could deliver this with more spirit than a stylistically assured conductor like Antonino Fogliani. Things get exciting in Bruno Maderna's Giardino religioso. There are no fixed sequences here; musicians and conductor decide in real time where the journey will take them. It sounds chaotic, but it's cleverly executed! The result is a truly special concert moment. No less thrilling is Nino Rota's Bassoon Concerto, played by Sophie Dervaux, the principal bassoonist of the Vienna Philharmonic. Rota was much more than "just" a film music genius. In addition to ten operas, he composed numerous other works – and this charming, joyful concerto. Haydn's Symphony "Mit dem Paukenschlag", which sparkles with wit and inventiveness, is another highlight of a program that promises to be as unusual as it is entertaining.

During the Twelfth Night weekend, Norrlandsoperan" class="css-u850">Norrlandsoperan opens its doors for a glittering, high-class opera gala with carefully selected treats for opera connoisseurs and beginners alike. Swedish rising star Rebecka Wallroth makes her debut at Norrlandsoperan and as the male counterpart we hear the well-known tenor Per Lindström.

The evening begins in the good spirit of La Scala with Italian splendor. Rebecka Wallroth sets the tone with the famous Rossini aria “Una voce poco fa” from The Barber of Seville followed by the duet “Un soave non so che” from Cinderella by the same composer. This is followed by another soprano number from the bel canto repertoire, this time from Bellini’s opera I Capuleti ei Montecchi . The first set is rounded off in grand style by Per Lindström with Puccini’s beloved tenor arias “E lucevan le stelle” from Tosca and “Che gelida manina” from La Bohème.

In our traditional organ concert on New Year's Eve, the queen of instruments and four tubas come together in an unusual combination. Together, Katharina Königsfeld and the Melton Tuba Quartet present well-known classics in a new light. From the delicate, dance-like melodies of Tchaikovsky's "Flower Waltz," to the rapid Allegro from Rossini's overture of the opera "William Tell" with its dramatic energy, to Badinerie and March by Bach - the artful arrangements for organ and tuba also make his music shine in completely new colors. From profound passages to festive sounds - this evening is a musical highlight that bids farewell to the old year with style and energetically accompanies you into the new year! However, her wish meets with rejection by her stepfather Don Magnifico and the selfish stepsisters Instead, she is treated like a maid, while the spoiled amily dreams of wealth - although everything is on the brink of ruin. It’s a rambunctious tale: an old curmudgeon is set on marrying his own ward of court with a view to snapping up her considerable inheritance. He leaves no stone unturned in his efforts to keep the fair Rosina cloistered from the outside world and thus from any potential young suitors. A pity, then, that Count Almaviva has fallen head over heels for her. Assisted by Figaro, an enterprising barber, he plans to outwit the old man, win over Rosina – and ensure that it’s love that attracts her to him rather than his rank and wealth. Not an easy job for Figaro, seeing as the opposite camp is scheming with equal tenacity … Love wins out in the end, and it turns out that all precautions were useless!

The Vienna University of Technology Orchestra, conducted by Črt Lasbaher, presents this benefit concert in support of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Aid Vienna, Lower Austria, and Lower Burgenland. The concert is under the patronage of Burgtheater actor Michael Maertens, whose sister Miriam Maertens suffers from cystic fibrosis (CF).

La Cenerentola is a dramma giocoso by Gioacchino Rossini, loosely based on Charles Perreault's Cinderella . Librettist Jacopo Ferreti replaces magic with ingenuity and humor while retaining the universal theme of the triumph of goodness over arrogance. In this joyful drama, rife with misunderstandings and disguises, a ridiculous stepfather is substituted for the wicked stepmother and bracelets for glass slippers. To interpret the delightful characters in this sparkling work, the Opéra de Québec relies on the talent and flamboyance of great performers like Jean-Luc Ballestra and Christophe Gay.

Gioachino Rossini is famous above all for his operas—from "The Barber of Seville" to "William Tell" to "Cenerentola." However, the Italian composer declared his extremely successful operatic career over when he was barely 40 years old. Numerous short works followed, and, as a kind of crowning achievement, the "Petite messe solennelle." Thomas Hengelbrock and the Balthasar Neumann Ensembles, equally outstanding in opera and sacred music, are the perfect cast for this setting of the mass, which the composer, with typical self-irony, describes as "small."

Rossini’s Overture to La gazza ladra blends humor and pathos, employing the composer’s trademark slow orchestral crescendo building to an energetic conclusion. The rhythmic vitality of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony has made it one of the composer’s most enduringly popular symphonies, known as “the apotheosis of the dance.” Professor of Cello Norman Fischer is the soloist in Anthony Brandt’s new chamber concerto, commissioned for the Shepherd School’s 50th anniversary.

So everything would be wonderful - if it weren't for Don Bartolo, Rosina's guardian, who won't let her out of the house or out of his sight. He wants to marry Rosina himself and can rely on the support of music teacher Don Basilio, who provides him with information about his rival. The Count's dedicated helper is the title character: Figaro, Barber of Seville and the Count's former servant. His many pieces of good advice result above all in stunningly funny stage scenes and at least do not prevent the two lovers from finding each other in the end.
