For its season finale concert, the UMD Wind Ensemble presents a performance of works that explore renewal and hope. From a new perspective on the legends behind The Engulfed Cathedral originally explored by Debussy, to a new setting of songs from an 1835 songbook, this concert shows the depth of wind ensemble repeirtoire and virtuosity.

The Pomona College Band, one of the oldest college bands in the country, was founded in 1909. It is the concert band for The Claremont Colleges and is funded by Pomona College. The band’s membership is drawn from students, faculty and staff of The Claremont Colleges, and members of the local community. Its goal is to prepare significant music in a collaborative atmosphere for performance at the highest level. They present two sets of concerts each academic year and have performed music by composers from Sousa to Bernstein and Ives to Rossini.

The Southern Miss Concert Band is a varsity musical ensemble for the music major and non-major alike. Performing traditional band literature, the ensemble provides a performance medium for the busy student musician. The Concert Band is under the current direction of Travis Higa.

The University of Michigan Symphony Band closes its season with a very special performance in conjunction with the North Central Division Conference of the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). Collegiate musicians and teachers from across the Midwest will be in attendance for a concert that includes the talents and music of several U-M faculty members. New music from Composition professors Evan Chambers and Kristin Kuster will be joined by the consortium premiere of a brand new symphony by the lauded Mexican composer Arturo Marquez. All three pieces were made possible by the support of the H. Robert Reynolds Commissioning Fund.
