Dive into the rich history of the 1904 World's Fair as our orchestra members, having delved into the museum’s archives, bring to life the works performed by famous musicians of that era. This concert will not only feature a captivating selection of music but also offer attendees a walking tour of the fair’s most exciting music venues, all set against a stunning backdrop of iconic photographs from 1904.

Korean-born Canadian cellist Eric Han made his concerto debut with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14. Following his debut, he had many engagements with Toronto Sinfonietta, Toronto Chamber Players and Boston’s Symphony by the Sea. As a guest artist and Artist in Residence, Han has participated at various festivals including the Moritzburg Festival, La Jolla SummerFest, Music@Menlo and Sarasota Music Festival, among others. Han studied with David Hetherington at the Glenn Gould School, and holds a Bachelor of Music from the Colburn School of Music under the tutelage of Ronald Leonard. Han is a recent graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Peter Wiley and Carter Brey. Han plays on a cello made by Frank Ravatin on generous loan to him by the Maestro Foundation. Eric is 4th chair cellist with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra since 2013.

Taken from a set of piano pieces and orchestrated for full orchestra, we are excited to feature Cal Poly Professor of Composition Meredith Brammeier on this season finale. We will also be premiering a new work by local composer Stephan Podell.

The program begins with Roland furieux, a symphonic poem by Augusta Holmès, a composer with close ties to Liszt and Saint-Saëns in the late 19th century. Indianapolis born conductor Kazem Abdullah concludes with Saint-Saëns brilliant organ symphony, a piece that was dedicated to Liszt.

This concert marks the Tippet debut of two multi-faceted artists – Grammy-nominated violinist Tessa Lark and classical and jazz harpist Charles Overton. Tessa Lark, consistently praised by critics and audiences for her astounding range of sounds, technical agility, and musical elegance, is also a highly acclaimed fiddler in the tradition of her native Kentucky. Charles Overton is a frequent performer with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops, as well as jazz clubs throughout the northeast.
